There was a shooting last year relatively close to where the BWW on Highland is located.

Crime on the north side of campus is still alive. I just wouldn't go past where the CVS is, at least not on foot and not late at night.

Creepy dudes on bicycles can ride up on you and you don't hear them.

Yep. Section 8 is a huge part of why Tigerland went downhill in the first place. But, notice it isn't even mentioned in NOLA.com or TheAdvocate.com.

J.R. Ball is a complete tool -- but he's probably right about some of this.

It makes me sad to see that. I lived in Tigerland from 1980 - 1983 and it was a good neighborhood back then. We used to walk to those bars. There used to be fistfights on a regular basis but no one used to pull out knives or guns. Things change.

I sold my condo in Sharlo a couple of years ago to a girl going to vet school. I almost feel bad for her now. Sharlo was a cool place to live up until about 5 years ago.

The article was a bit too nostalgic for my taste. I get that TL has crime issues. But I don't think it will completely stop people from going there anytime soon.

It seems like we address the housing issue with TL every few months. But no one can come up with a realistic solution to the problem.

I lived at the apartment complex across from Burger King. I'd lived in BR all my life and never had a problem, but in a one week period my senior year I got my car broken into twice and got held up at gun point. It was only about 10:30 PM when I got held up, and it was right outside the complex. Still took BR PD 10 minutes to get there even though they are literally a minute down the road.

Other than LSU and the capital (maybe the port) Baton Rouge offers next to nothing to Louisiana. I would imagine that respectable people will be moving out in the next decade.

There was a shooting that I witnessed in 2011 around Xmas time right in front 3135 Highland(Gated Northgate apts). Two students waiting to be buzzed in to see a friend when robbed and one shot in leg.

And oddly enough to the OT, the students were black and the robbers were mexican.
