All true especially about this part
quote:

He also neglected to take into account that Western culture as a whole has become an increasingly reactionary mob of self-centered narcissists who all have their own personal lines drawn in the sand. A comedian is fine unless he crosses their particular line, which, of course, in the mind of a self-centered narcissist, is the only line that matters.

These days if you don't agree with someone it's the norm to get a mob after them, harass them, change the laws, etc instead of just carrying on and minding your own business about something that doesn't affect you.

I am triggered by this thread BTW. RA incoming!

I see it everyday on here a "controversial " thread is posted. People are fine with someone getting in trouble lver nothing unless they agree with person then its"pussification of america". They are ok with people losing jobs over nothing if they dont find a joke funny or dont agree with their opinion

For a culture thats as obsessed with bullying as ours is, I find it funny that the preferred way to deal with people you disagree with is to call them names, discredit them in public, and attempt to turn the mob against them. Or, you know, bully them.

Yesterday, Sam Smith tweeted out an April fools joke that said that he was straight.

That is pretty funny and all and you would think that it was just be a funny April Fools joke that people could laugh over.

No.

While many thought it was funny, people were also tweeting him saying how offensive it was for him to joke about something like that.

This country is out of control when it comes to being offended.

I agree, but I'm also fine when a society makes it known that they dont agree with people who say insanely idiotic stuff

Not condoning the mob mentality, but I don't think there's anything wrong with viewpoints being checked

i shared this on FB earlier

the culture of offense, similar to the culture of victim hood

and yeah, both are largely based in narcissism of individuals. norton nailed it

quote:

When Comedy Central named Trevor as Jon Stewart’s successor, our trusty, tireless brigade of social-justice warriors immediately went to work digging through his tweets and stand-up to find something, anything to be upset about.

standard operating procedure. scour through a person's entire history to find any little thing (even if taken out of context) to try to create a "gotcha" moment. it's pretty hilarious how this has become the standard rhetoric measure

quote:

In his rush to be funny, he had broken what has become the new golden rule in American public life, which is to never say anything (or, God forbid, joke about anything) that may be deemed even remotely offensive or upsetting by any segment of the population for any reason.

progressives, esp SJWs, lack a sense of humor

quote:

Upsetting ourselves on purpose is exactly what we are doing.

this is the narcissism and how he nails it

people are so self-absorbed and feel like their life is without meaning without some external purpose that this is what has emerged

it's #FirstWorldProblems and a sign of how great our society actually is. we don't have real shite to protest over so we make shite up, out of some idea/meme that protest is the highest form of being in the US. it's the vestigial tail of the civil rights era

quote:

No matter which direction you turn to aim the joke, someone is getting hit. And while the person who has been hit jumps up and down and exaggerates their injuries, everyone else in the circle is telling them to shut up and learn to take a joke. Until they themselves get hit.

yes. people have become ultimate pussies. it's part of the feminization of our society

What makes matters worse are the groups like pile like minded subject sensitive people together. I laugh every time I hear Bill Burr talk about groups. There's a group for this, a group for that......you know what?? Go frick yourself and your group.

I still fight the good fight on the help board. So many grown men tattling over nothing there. I call them out and there's never a defense for it.

I'm sure more than a few will read this thread. You're part of the problem ladies.
