A Jewish family has fled Lancaster County after the cancellation of a fifth grade production of A Christmas Carol was partially blamed on them by conservative news outlets. The Hempfield School District said the extra time the non-curricular event required and not complaints about the line "God bless us, every one!" prompted cancellation, according to a story on PennLive. The play has been a holiday tradition at the Centerville Elementary School for more than three decades. In September, the Jewish parents asked if their child could be excused from the play, and were told yes. After the decision to cancel the play in November, their child was harassed at school, according to a story on LancasterOnline.

Yeah, that is how they get their name. It's the sound they make when they flee from place to place *jew* *jew* *jew*.

Jews believe in God. I don't know why people think they would have a problem with that.

If only the OP had somehow included this in his post:

"The Hempfield School District said the extra time the non-curricular event required and not complaints about the line "God bless us, every one!" prompted cancellation, according to a story on PennLive"

So the parents just asking if their kids can be excused and they were told yes. They didn't do anything more than that, however; someone made the decision to cancel the play so people harassed the family?

I assume Centerville Elementary School is a public school and as unpopular as this will be, I don't really agree with bringing religion into public schools. Do you think public schools should push a political agenda? I think the same applies to religion. Maybe the school made the decision based on the fact that there are kids who attend the school who does not celebrate Christmas so we really shouldn't promote any particular religious view.

A Christmas Carol is not very religious, if at all.
