My flight departs Dallas at 10:45am and arrives Shanghai Wednesday at 4pm. Any tips of lessening the effects of jet lag? Should I try and acclimate myself to Shanghai time as soon as I get on the plane? Its been a few years since I've been to China and I can't remember how that works but I do remember it sucks. Thanks for your time

Take a sleeping pill as soon as you get on the flight.

There have to be some articles online about preparing for the trip and syncing up with China time.

1) talk to your doctor about getting something to help you sleep on the plane.
2) start acclimating now, adjust your schedule by a few hours before you leave.
3) melatonin helps
4) if your trip is less than a week, just take sleep aids every night. If you can swing it, take adderall during the day. You will be fricked for 2-3 days when you return but it can really help for short trips.

It takes a day to aclimate once there. you pretty much cannot get around that, or at least I cannot.

When we went to Vietnam, we slept for like 18 hours once we got to our hotel. After that, no problems.

This or benadryl. That's a long flight so even after sleeping for 7 or 8 hours you'll wake up and already be on china time with another 6 or 7 hours left on the flight

it takes a day for each hour of timezone difference. So going to china will take what 9 days to acclimate?

Once your flight takes off eat the in-flight meal along with a few cocktails, pop and Ambien and boom you will be good to go.

Made that trip a few times. Sleep on the plane. But, yeah...it would be good to acclimate to local time, though that's easier said than done.

Nothing works. I finally felt used to the time when I was getting on the plane heading back to the states.

If possible, take a sleeping pill 10 hours before you land (should be right after the gross noodle smell starts in the cabin).

Huh? I guess I got lucky when I flew to London because I was acclimated pretty much immediately...didn't sleep on the plane though (redeye from Atlanta, landed at noon London time)...got off the plane, took the tube to my friend's place and immediately went out doing touristy stuff and slept like a baby that night

I did get fricked up for a few days after flying back into atlanta so maybe it's only going west
