Looking for a good used jeep under 15k that I could ideally trade my wife's old 08 camry in on. My question is how many miles Is too many for the 4l engines? I see lots of options from 110-160k miles. Thanks.

You can find a gem if you look long enough. Paid 15.6 three years ago for my 2004 TJ with 33k miles on it. I see several pop up around here in that range with under 80k miles. They will run forever though. 150k is just getting started.

Depends on what year it is. 4.0s are pretty sturdy.

I bought a 2004 Rubicon with roughly 50,000 miles on it back in 2011 for $14,500. It was a hell of a deal I thought, so I jumped on it. Never had any issues with it. Sold it a few months ago because of my long commute to work and needing better gas mileage, and have missed it every day since

ETA: Sold it for almost as much as I paid for it, after having put 30,000+ miles on it.

Got 170k or so on my 99 TJ. Fixing to rebuild it due to a wrist pin slap.

I had a 97 Cherokee with that beast of an engine. It was up to 235K without a single problem when I sold it seven years ago.

It's probably still rolling around someplace.

I was raised on European cars and was the first of my family to buy an American made car which was my Jeep. Jeeps will get 200k miles at least.

The mileage isn't important like that.

If when you start the engine from cold you hear any sort or ticking... Walk away. The tensioners are bad. Typically because someone used the wrong weight of oil or never did oil changes.

From there, there are certain things you change every 100k miles and every 50k miles.

Keep the fluids fresh and keep up with the maintenance and they will run forever. Ignore it and they will leave you penniless.

Buy a Rubicon, in the used market they are basically the same price.

Edit: there are tons of 300k + mile jeeps out there.

Swap to a used Cherokee transmission when you break the stock one. 250 bucks used.

Hmmm. I bought a Jeep a while back after looking for several months. It took me a while to find the manual transmission with the specs I wanted because the majority were automatics.

That's a great engine. Jeep should've never discontinued it.

18 months ago I bought a 94 YJ 4 cly 5 speed for $5000. 175,000 miles.
I got a friend of mine who runs a used car lot to find it for me.
It has good oil pressure ,doesn't use oil or have any leaks. Mine is not a dayly driver, but it could be. Hope you find a good one, and enjoy it as much as I do mine.
