So the state government has mis-managed money to the point where we are very deep in debt.

So they want MORE money to mis-manage in the form of tax increases?

I know that in MY house, if I'm spending more than I make, I cut what I'm spending until I'm at least out of the hole....

the State took a voluntary pay cut in the form of less taxes, via repeal of the Stelly Plan and all the Corporate giveaways. Hell $1.1 billion to subsidize fracking?!?! Like we needed to subsidize that?

So, you voluntarily cut your income, but not your expenses, now are in a hole. Better boost your salary, or move into a trailer and let the F250 go back to the bank.

gotta love how JBE now gets blamed for trying to fix the complete shitstorm left by his predecessor.

the state is legally required to submit a balanced budget. So we're not actually in debt, just operating at a deficit at the moment. We have great credik.

But the rest of your post is correct.

He's a lifelong Louisiana politician, so he is to blame for a lot of the struggles of this state. He is not trying to fix anything, he is attempting to raise money to cover the debts he has added to the coffers so next year he can ask for a couple more pennies so that none of the Dem pet projects in the state are cut. JBE is not the problem, Jindal wasn't the problem. THe problem with Louisiana is that every backward town, parish, district, state office, all the way up to the governor has been corrupt for 50+ yrs. AT least with Jindal I could see what he was trying to do (increase the incentives so that jobs could be created). With JBE he is literally trying to raise taxes so he doesn't look like a complete buffoon next year when the people of the state see the budget, and to keep his supporters and their projects protected from being cut via a constitutional amendment to recall the last Dems brilliant idea to protect one time money for disaster relief into the states budget.

Completely incorrect way of looking at it.

"Pay cut" implies the state did work to earn their salary. They didn't. They confiscated it from the people of Louisiana who DID work hard for it.

TL;DR - It's not their money to start with.

But in your house you didn't make a bunch of deals with friends and insiders in order to be "The Governor" of your house.

All these cats get to high political office because someone connected got them there and when you make it you have to pay the piper.

Sometimes its another politician and he/she needs to make sure you keep entitlements in place so his/her constituents keep electing them into office or its someone tied to a big state contract that needs to stay in place rather than being re-negotiated.

This cycle of waste and corruption will continue until the people open their eyes and stop being fleeced by politicians.

Did he give anyone raises yet?

It's good that he decided we should keep paying for able bodied people without kids to continue getting government assistance? Please explain how and why he did that

Didn't Jindal give away an $850 million surplus as a tax stimulus because his awesome economic advisors promised him oil prices would rise till infinity?

The (current) budget issues are not really on JBE, no matter how much of a POS he is. Now, we can all disagree with his solutions to fix this.

He's most definitely making all the right moves up to this point:

- removing work requirements for able bodied welfare recipients

- expansion of medicaid

- giving raises to government positions he once referred to as exorbitant

- using LSU as a prop to fearmonger and scare citizens into raising taxes

He did inherit a shitstorm. There is no reason to raise taxes. They need to cut spending and manage the budget. He says the 1% sales tax will be temporary. When the frick have you ever seen a tax that was temporary? They will just realize a surplus eventually and increase spending.

Honestly, the dude sounds like a raving fricking dumbass. Typical tax and spend liberal communist. And Jindal was a nightmare. He might not've "raised taxes" (which he did) but he damn sure didnt' cut spending either.

The Stella plan was passed as a budget neutral tax shift. It was supposed to increase taxes on the wealthy and lower taxes on the middle class and lower middle class. However that was not the case and when everyone's taxes went up people wanted repealed.

It was passed upon a lie and was doomed to fail thanks to Jay Dardenne.

well, you can't cut revenue without cutting spending. So Stelly repeal cost about $300 million per year, and no spending was cut to cover that loss. trickle down doesn't work.
