you think dudes making min wage at pizza hut can afford a hotel? plsu they are probalby booked already.

You can definitely find a ratty arse hotel in Mississippi for around the cost of the extra gas driving to Arkansas.

Also, thats why you have an emergency fund. Hurricane evacuations in Florida are a reality you MUST plan for. It is GOING to happen. Give me the min wage cry if this is like the third storm this year they have had to evacuate for.

Otherwise, this is turning into it somehow being Pizza Hut's fault you can't manage your shite.

In which case you can work something with your supervisor. If you are worth it, he might make it work out.

Here's the cliffs notes: You are bitching that a corporate level policy isn't tailored to a single person who might be in a hypothetical worst case scenario. Never mind that if changed, it can be abused by people who live closer. All that matters is that this multi million dollar organization considers my needs as their first concern.

Oh, and never mind that if I don't like it, I can leave and get another min wage job. I'm entitled to this position!

You quit a job because you couldn't wait until shift was over to go to the hospital?

Is watching your mom squirt out a kid a common thing in Arkansas?

Were you also the father?

Also, wtf are you talking about here? My post literally said "hotel or campground?". I didn't even know you're black and I never mentioned your sister.

I have zero issue with this. Maybe the closing 6-12 hours before storm "hits" should be like 12-18 but I dont know what they mean by "hits"

Looks like the work of a good manager to me. I'd bet this pizza hut is run better than most.

Nothing wrong with the memo except...
quote:

But we also have a responsibility and commitment to our community to be there when they need us.

What a joke. Do they really think anyone gives a shite? Responsibility, commitment, need.

Sounds like you'll have plenty of time to make it back.

Hell, lets throw in 10 hours for eating and sleeping before heading back. And another 10 hours back at home to see your situation and get some sleep before your shift

You still have 22 hours before you hit your limit. Almost a full day.

So now its not what can be done.

Now its "I'm not driving all that way unless I can spend some time with them."

I didn't realize my "stretching evacuation to a vacation" comment would be validated so overtly and quickly.

That is what I'm seeing too. There would be backlash if Pizza Hut was closed for 5 or 6 days due to the storm too, you have to have employees to run a business. While everyone seems to always side with the lowly, poor employees, they never seem to worry about the greedy, awful business owners trying to make a living and keep people employed.

Lots of people without power often head out in the aftermath of a storm looking for comfort food and air conditioning for an hour.

Gotta keep the place closed however, because Jimmy there has to drive to Arkansas. The customers can't enjoy their comfort food, his coworkers can't make money to pay for their own evacuations, and his boss can't start to recoup money for losses due to opportunity costs and damages to the facility.

Nope.

All about what Jimmy can do.

My cousin is in Ft. Myers and was not allowed to leave teh hospital where she works.

These people are in Jacksonville.

Further, have any of you ever worked with minimum wage types? Many will look for any reason to miss work. We could have one snowflake fall in February two counties north of our facility and half of the workforce won't show up due to the "fear of being snowed in"

Having gone through Katrina I can assure you if the area is to the point of no power and no hot meals, Pizza Hut will be without power as well. If it's not bad enough to close Pizza Hut, then there will be hundreds of other places open as well as grocery stores.

I think that part should be left out because honestly it's not the community they're concerned about, it's their profits. Not that there is anything wrong with that concern but don't blow smoke up people's asses.

Then fricking stay home. Nothing in that memo is preventing you from doing so.

What exactly is your point? That you couldn't afford to evacuate? So 1. stay home or 2. Don't live in a hurricane zone.

And what's your point about the time frame? You can't afford to go for 72 hours but you can go for longer?

I hate working with people like you. You spend all your time thinking of reasons you can't do something. You are the employee that this memo was written for.
