It's dog insurance worth it for a young, healthy dog?

I've got a two year old pit pup. I just had her rabies shot renewed, and she's in perfect health. Even if she were attacked by another dog at the park, I doubt they could hurt he badly or so fast it couldn't be broken up. And she gets along with almost every dog, so it's not a problem I'm worried about. The only real potential concern I'd have, would be her get hurt on a hiking trail. But in Colorado, no vet can fix those fall injuries.
I'm thinking it would be better to wait a few years, once she's been an adult for a while. It might've been smart for the first year, when early, generic health problems often show up. But it just seems like wasted money, unless you have a naturally unhealthy breed, like an English Bulldog. Because as you can see, she's a very healthy bitch. A damn good hiking partner and wingman.

Unless plan on breeding, I would say no

Personal liability insurance, yes

Put the $ into a college fund.

Nah, good socialization, and the only problems are they can be overly affectionate. This dog spent more time as a pup in the French Quarter, than most people raised on the Westbank.

I have insurance for my dog. If he breaks a leg it only costs me $250.
You have a pit though. That thing will get put down soon so I doubt it's worth it for you.

Shelter dog, do not an option. Besides, unfixed dogs are involved or lead to way too many incidents. Probably a majority.

With all the time we've been training for the wiener dog races, it could happen.

If I'd have stayed around Denver, yeah, they'd have put her down. But not for an attack, but because of the laws. So I moved to Boulder, where she's permitted to walk off leash on most of the public hiking trails. So she's changing minds on those stupid laws, one hike and kiss at a time.

Trashy? Because when I lived in Nola, I wanted to adopt from a rescue shelter, instead of pay some breeder for an dog? Nola has nothing but pits in their shelters. Too many good dogs die for no reason. Why buy another inbred golden retriever?

I have a beagle/rat terrier mix. Had her since a pup. About a year ago (at a year and a half old) she got very, very sick. Once to twice a week vet visits for 2 months and 3 days at the vet school in Starkville, I would say yes. We still don't know what's wrong with her and she has been on weekly steroids ever since. The steroids are cheap and no bother, but the vet bills at that time started to add up.
We will probably get insurance on our next dog

Good luck on getting homeowner's insurance, that is, unless you lie and tell them you don't own a pit bull when they ask.

Yes clearly buying insurance on a shelter dog is a wise investment. Doug Ramsey talks about it all the time.

You can't go to Heaven if you own a pit.
