This world is a messed up place, no doubt about it. It's only getting worse.

ETA: I am not limiting my comment to crime statistics alone.

I could argue how we have progressed as a society and regressed at the same time. Some will get their panties in a wad and argue to no end.

I could simply say let's agree to disagree and be just fine.

No. We're fine.

This was an isolated incident. Dude clearly had it out for certain people.

Things are actually better now than they've ever been.

I don't inownifnits getting worse. Every crime statistic has gone down a ton even from what they were 5-10 years ago.

My grandfather got shot 6 times in 1958 walking out of a grocery store to find someone trying to steal his car.

In both of these incidents, the victims were targeted. It sucks, but it's not random murders. The Sunset, LA cop is the only one who got caught in a bad situation.

Our incredible coverage abilities through social media today distorts our perception of world safety.

There is truth here. The biggest deal now is the 24 hour news cycle, and social media. Go back and look at the gangster era between the World Wars. Thousands of murders that never got solved because police didn't have time. If you were a random person, you were SOL.

The small town I grew up in Alabama had a gruesome murder in the 80s. The stuff horror movies were made out of. A son killed both of his parents with an axe and stole $50 for drugs. He ended up committing suicide. It would have been on every media site in the nation if it happened today.

I keep my eyes peeled for suspicious people everywhere I go.
If that means I'm racist/ profiler, so be it.
With that said evil/stupid people come in all colors.

It's the opposite actually. Violent crime is trending way down and has been for nearly two decades.

The 24 hour news cycle and social media has distorted your perception of reality/facts.

We simply hear about crime way more than we used to.

All of these shootings recently. It's a little paranoid, but after I learned about the 2 reporters this morning, I was at walmart and couldn't help but think "It could happen anytime/anywhere, they were just going about their day."

Certainly seems like the crazies are everywhere and too close for comfort here in LA. Be safe out there.

Where are those "good guys with guns"? Seems that anyone who fashions him/herself as one of those "good guys" has one or multiple guns, and either open carries or has a cc permit. Gun ownership has expanded greatly in the last 10 years. Why do we still have these mass/spree killings? Where are all the citizen heroes we have been promised?

The Country needs stringent gun control laws and we need to reinstitute mental institutions to deal with the spiraling mental health crisis the country is facing.

I'm tired of seeing innocent women, children, and the elderly being victimized in this increasingly violent society.

Also we need to institute mandatory military service for those who drop out of high school or are arrested for petty crimes.
