Let's get some automation in that bitch. I allegedly sped? Sweet. Why can't I just log on to my computer and plead not guilty ( if that's what I want to do) thus saving me a useless 2 second court appearance where all I do is find out the date I am to return to court. frick. Like 90% of the times I've been to court, the only thing that was accomplished was getting a piece of paper with the next date that I am to appear. I feel like we should be able to automate most of that foolishness. And yeah Im trashy

Must not be working so well for you if you're going to court so much.

Stop buying illegal burritos and you won't have to answer to the law

B. By rule adopted pursuant to R.S. 13:472, the judge of the district court or a majority of the judges in a multi-district court may permit the defendant in a noncapital felony case to waive formal arraignment and enter a plea of not guilty without pleading in person. The rule shall require that the plea be in writing and shall set forth the filing procedure. Any formal defect shall not affect the validity of the proceeding.

because many/most judges want to ensure you show up for your criminal appearances. people miss court enough and they don't want to make it easier to have an excuse as to why they missed. missing a court date can drag out the process entirely, and the response (bench warrant, incarceration, etc) is costly

there are ways to avoid court, however. there are waivers you can file, even in felony cases. there are rules that apply, though.

3 years ago East Baton Rouge Parish had 183,000 outstanding bench warrants, the system is obviously broken.

Was talking about this the other day. I am terrible about forgetting about the ticket and then having to pay the fine and penalty, why can't we just pay at the time the ticket is issued, scan credit card on hand held device cops carry and done.
