Is working from home overrated?

Sounded great in the beginning, but, after a month, the lack of social interaction is becoming an issue. Anyone else have those challenges?

yep, I cant do it..I tried and tried again...I'd rather drive an hour to my office than work from home. Some days I dont mind staying home and get work done from the house, but no way can I be all in working from home full time

If you work in an office that has a place for you to sneak off and rub one out a couple times a day you can have the best of both worlds.

I work from home. The perks of no commute are great but I find myself working longer days just because more is expected of me since I work at home. Total catch 22

So step outside the house on occasion. Have lunch with others. Schedule occasional meetings.

I've been doing it for over 2 years now. My social life has definitely taken a hit and I find myself going stir crazy a lot. Throw a small child into the mix and I never get out anymore.

I just do it now and then.
My office flooded in Houston a few months ago so I spent a week and a half at home. It was torture.

Had an accident and had to set up the office at home while I recouped for 4 months. I was surprisingly productive and enjoyed it for the first 2 months but always had a "what am I missing" nagging in the back of my mind after that. Don't think I could do it full time.

If I had a job where I didn't have a physical office space, I would probably love working from home.
But since I have an office, I hate working from home. My mind completely discriminates against my work/home mentality when I'm in the opposite physical location. I have trouble focusing on anything work-related when I'm at home.

do you primarily hang out with your coworkers?

No, but the zero interaction during the long work days is brutal.

dang Son! I would die for full time from home. I get one day a week currently to work from home . The hardest part about working from home for me is all the distractions: Family, pets, other things to do, TV, Internet etc...... . Yeah i guess i need to be at work 4 days a week.

I'd like to do it a couple days a week when it's slow. I can telecon from any where. The fuel savings is what I'm interested in as well.

I work from home when I'm not traveling for work. I got used to it but I'm an only child so isolation doesn't really bother me. I'm one of those guys that could probably go off grid and be just fine. My biggest problem working from home is the ability to focus. It's either my wife and child bothering me with something or I see something, either in my home office or if I work from the dining table, that I need to do and a lot of times decide to do it while I'm thinking about it. I also have a hard time keeping my mind from wandering but I think that's mostly due to my line of work. When I used to work in an office I at least had bosses looking over my shoulder to keep me on task but at home it's all about results.

When I worked from home, my problem was focus. I'd take a break for a minute, then see something that needs fixing, and 4 hours later I'm finally back to work. This also would happen when they "marathoned" a show I liked on TV.
My solution was working outside the home. Coffee shops, libraries, etc. You can also get an office suite and have it just you.

I've been doing it for several years now. It does get lonely, and I have to really make a point to get some sunlight. It becomes harder to even want to leave the house, or get dressed in the morning. I was stir crazy at first, and then I kind of lost the desire for social interaction, which is worse. But doing those things is important, so I incorporate them into my schedule. Just the simple act of getting ready as though you have to be presentable at an office is helpful to avoid the slump. It's also helpful that I can look forward to my wife and kids coming home at the end of the day. Living alone and working from home would be difficult.
The benefits far outweigh the bad. I am much more productive with a faster computer, and I can do much more with my personal time by avoiding a commute.

At least you don't have some co-worker wrecking the shitter before you.

You nailed it right here.

I work out of an office suite by myself. Getting depressing
