President Clinton made it our business when he assured Ukraine that the US and NATO would absolutely guarantee the integrity of its borders if they would give up their nukes and dismantle their army. Bush and Obama have each doubled (tripled) down on this during their administrations, by re-ratifying the pact.

Ukraine is not a treaty ally, so your premise is flawed.

Might want to brush up on your definition of genocide as it relates to the Soviets and Germans. Just because you don't drive humans into gas chambers like cattle doesn't mean you don't do the exact same through other means, again, never to be seen or heard from again.

That would be a quick war. Especially after isreal used the opportunity to blow up invade and occupy its enemies in the middle east as soon as they publicly backed Russia after we started it

Ukraine is not Poland circa 1938, where an invasion triggers war.

It's closer to Czechoslovakia 1936, where stopping Putin would probably prevent a larger war down the road but no other power really wants to get involved and just wishes the whole matter would go away.

I see things getting much worse from here if Putin isn't stopped. It may not directly screw the US, but I see Europe as being completely fricked because the eastern countries don't have the firepower to hold them off despite the will to do so while the western ones depend on us for their defense and will roll over like the French during the WWII Blitzkrieg if the Red Army starts rolling.

The Russian military is dogshit. Their equipment is junk that doesn't work and it has been neglected for the last 20 years. They have a few good units that are properly equipped but not many. What they do have is numbers, but even that is suspect because they are low paid conscripts.

This was the exact thing the Germans thought in June of 1941. Except on top of all that, the Red Army had just gone through Stalin's purges of the 30's where the vast majority of capable Red Army officers were either shot or imprisoned in Siberia.

You do realize that this was the identical reasoning in America that got us into WWII, and that caused us to have to lose so much men and material in recapturing all of Europe and North Africa in the process?

Then why didn't the rest of the world stop us from overthrowing the governments of two countries in the last 15 years and killing their leaders? Sounds worse than what Putin has done so far.

He was right. Many Soviet troops on the front didn't have guns. It wasn't the Soviet war machine that stopped the Germans, it was the winter and too many other concerns.

Wash and repeat... WWI, WWII, to present. Turn a blind eye, and ignore it and it doesn't go away until it ends up being our business and a bloody one at that. Same talk, same result.

Nothing wrong with seeking peaceful resolutions, and well we should at this point, but from a point of strength and ultimatums that absolutely NO invasion of the Ukraine or elsewhere will be tolerated or considered an act of aggression on all of Europe and thus an act of war. That's the ONLY thing those Russian fricks really comprehend and respect, peace from a point of strength. Reagan saw that, and operated in such a manner. He didn't cower down, but stood his ground and let them know how the cow chews the cabbage, but with a friendly smile and out reached hand as well.

The trouble is, if I were Putin and looked over at America right now, I'd be encouraged at what I saw in America and the leadership so called in America. And don't think for a second he doesn't look over here and laugh, because he does. That's the scary part, and which if anything will give him motivation to move forward into the Ukraine itself, which they already have.

Seriously, let me ask you this. What is their to gain for Russia to piss off the EU and the US.

Everyone seems to be forgetting that this world, and the world in 1930s pre-WWII are vastly different. We are so globally connected that it makes no sense to ostracize yourself.

Exactly. We're treaty bound to come to the aid of the Ukraine if Russia attacks. And if we fail to honor our word there, that will only serve to embolden Russia in other areas, specifically the Baltic. Take a look at this map that shows the members of NATO....

See the counties in green? Those use to be under either direct Soviet rule or were in the old Warsaw Pact. Those would be Putin's next move. If and when that happens, we will have no other option other than war. It terrifies me because that war looks to be about 3- 5 years down the road... just in time for my 12 yr old son to be caught up in it.
