The rule I live by is that if it's a food product it can go out the window. Something will end up eating it or it will just degrade.

quite natural. I wouldn't want it thrown in the street or a sidewalk, but in a grassy area, it will be either eaten by an animal or will compost relatively quickly.

I would say it depends on how it decays.

Pavement? Yes.
Grass? No.
Ground in dry climes? Yes.
