Is there already a cure for cancer?

This is something that has bothered me since I was a child. My grandfather died in 1978 of colon cancer. Even then, there were many people who believed that there was already a cure, but there was too much money to be made in treatment and research for it to be made available.
I've heard this same idea applied to other things in medicine and other technology, I was just thinking of my grandfather this morning.

Steve jobs didn't have enough money to buy the cure for himself, even if secretly. It doesn't exist

There probably exists potential cures or serious fights against certain types, but regulatory red tape re: the FDA robs people of the chance of trying them out, which is why you see a lot of people in later stages go to foreign countries to try some experimental stuff. They don't always work, but folks ought to have the choice.

I think so, on what level I don't know. Same thing goes for vehicles. We have plenty of technology that will allow trucks to get 30/40 mpg instead of the 10-15 they get now, but then oil companies wouldn't make any money.

Dude lived a while with pancreatic cancer, I'd call that a fricking win. I had an aunt who had controllable leukemia for two or three years....diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and dead within 10 days.

For as smart as Steve jobs was, he is responsible for his own death by relying on natural remedies and alternative medicine to fight his cancer. He avoided more modern medical solutions, which led to his downfall.
He was on record saying he regretted that decision and for not opting for surgery.

It wouldn't surprise me. Monsanto was heavily involved in employing chemists to mass produce L-Dopa in the 1960's and 1970's and were the source of numerous grants to Harvard researchers on the subject. They would be the company to find a cure and hide it for monetary gain.

Let's assume there is a cure and they are hiding it so they can print money. They being American businesses/government.
What stops a place like China from releasing the cure and they would make all the money and effectively shutting down all this money making in the states.
I think it's a pretty silly thought.

quote:all vehicles get that mileage. All vehicles with a "computer" in them are made to burn extra gas. That's the entire purpose of the catalytic converter.

People think an Oxygen sensor is really needed on a vehicle. Oxygen is a good thing, except for oil companies.

That's assuming that the Chinese have such knowledge, which is not a given. Currently, their higher end officials and businessman have hired mostly American (and other Westerners) physicians and surgeons to take care of them and teach their own gifted students.
Of course, oncological cures may be pharmaceutical, and I don't know enough about what the Chinese are capable of on that end.

Internal secrecy within the company buttressed by punitive non-compete agreements and confidentiality agreements for all employees and independent contractors.

IMO
There are two ways to look at it:
1) Conspiracy theory: there is a lot of money in research and treatment. A cure would put most these businesses and workers out of work. So suppression of a cure would be a powerful incentive.
2) The other theory is that there are too many people and countries involved in research. It would be impossible for a cure not to be leaked.
I think it is no. 2.

There is only one way to know whether a treatment is effective and that is to go through the proper channels of research and drug development. There are some great, curable treatments for some types of cancers. Think of all the people between strictly cancer researchers and physicians who do cancer research, who every day, are looking for the cure.
So to answer you question, no, there isn't some magic bullet yet that can kill cancer. But there are people working tirelessly to find it. Cancer isn't just some bacterium that can be eradicated because it has a special carbohydrate on it's cell wall membrane. Cancer is our own cells, that don't stop dividing and moving. It's a problem as complex as the human cell itself.

There are millions of ways to develop thousands of different cancers that are treated differently. World peace will be achieved first.

Are you fricking kidding me? Do you realize the level of controlled fricking pure evil collusion something like this would take? If you honestly believe this you're insane. It would mean literally thousands of people would be living on a sociopathic level that would make Adolf hitler look like Jesus Christ in comparison. I refuse to believe there is that level of ability in this world, no matter how much greed there is or ever was

There are cures for some types of cancer. Problem is that the goal posts move

I think there is a cure, but money isn't what is stopping the release. Population control i think is the bigger reason.
