I think he "suffered" from being as big as he was as quick as he was.
ETA: in one of his standups he jokes about all the hate mail he was getting such as, "your mom got cancer and died to get away from your shitty comedy"

He's Dusty Crophopper.
Screw you.

I never thought he was funny. Several of his bits made me cringe. His movies, just terrible. But I can't hate the man for being a genius marketer. His took his talent beyond any measure of where it should have went.
It would be like if Spud Webb had Lebron James numbers.

Yeah, my kid loves the second Planes movie so my opinion on Dane Cook has mellowed

The Role he played as the scumbag cook in "Waiting" was awesome.

I never understood the hate for him years ago. I saw him love and he was hilarious. A bit dramatic and full of himself but still funny. His specials were good and he seemed ok to me.
His latest HBO special changed that. It was the worst comedy special I've ever watched. The Situation was funnier on that Comedy Central roast of whoever. He just seemed angry and bitter and couldn't deliver any jokes. I think even his fans are done now.

Cannot stand his arse. Hope he stays gone.

That's kinda sad to hear. I was also a fan. When he got so big, so fast, he became cool to hate on.

He became the cool dude to hate for some reason by 2010. I don't know why because everyone thought he was hilarious and then all of a sudden couldn't stand him. I thought it was a bit ridiculous. His movies weren't the best but he's still funny

What if I always hated him? Yelling a shitty joke doesn't make it funny

I don't hate him, but I don't find his standup even mildly amusing.
Same for Jeff Dunham.
But I've seen college-age kids (Cook) and old people (Dunham) nearly piss themselves laughing at them when I won't even crack a smile.
Like Stanhope says, even when you are selling out two-thousand seat shows to loving fans, 90% of people in the world still think you suck.

He was ok in that Jessica whatever movie Employee of the Month. Kinda reminds me of Chris Pratt

I saw Kevin Hart in BR and didn't laugh at a single joke. People around me were rolling. Bizarre experience.
I'm sure someone loves Dane Cook to this day.

I never really got the hate for Dane Cook. It's like hating him because he was the popular guy quickly became the cool thing to do.
Many comedians trashed him because they said he stole material, but comedians steal from each other all the time. His "stolen" material wasn't even that similar to what he was accused of copying. Comedians also always seem to trash whoever is on top at the time. Louis CK is receiving his share currently.
His style of stand-up is annoying, sure, but his shite made me laugh my arse off when I was in high school.

THIS. Once he went mainstream he became cool to hate.

You're nuts if you don't think he's an extraordinary talent. He was the biggest comic in the world for a bit. You don't have to like his jokes to this he's a very talented guy.

i didn't mind cook, although his comedy isn't and wasn't my style...but his fans got annoying AF
