Investigation underway at BRCC over students' credentials

BATON ROUGE - Serious questions are being raised about hundreds of credentials students received at Baton Rouge Community College.
Out of state investigators are digging deep into records at BRCC this week. It centers around hundreds of students who received credentials for trade jobs, where there's no proof they met all of the requirements.
All of this focuses on the multi-million dollar TAACCCT grant, or "Trade Adjustment Community College and Career Training." At least 400 students went through the federal grant-funded program, which required classes and hands-on work in order to earn its credentials, but hundreds of those students may have received credentials they did not earn.
The TAACCCT grant was supposed to help people learn a craft like pipe fitting and welding. Tonight, everything BRCC has done with this program over the past few years is being closely scrutinized by investigators from the national organization that puts their names on those credentials.

Vincent Lee proudly holds the credentials he received from BRCC this year. The certificates he's holding show he's a certified pipe fitter.
"I feel like I accomplished more," Lee said.
Despite having those credentials, Lee hasn't been able to find work since he received them. Part of that reason, could be his physical disability. Vincent Lee has been considered legally blind since he was born. Despite that blindness, Lee managed to get a certification showing he's a pipe fitter. The TAACCCT program at BRCC trained students for things like welding, industrial maintenance and pipe fitting. Lee was among 410 students who sailed through, but didn't complete all of the work.

Giving a pipe fitter certificate to a blind guy

He must be really good at it if he can do it blind.

Why would someone legally blind go to school to be a pipefitter?

Well they make power tools for blind people.
The center for the blind in Ruston even has a wood workshop.

Not saying his credentials are legit but legally blind is not the same as blind. My brother is legally blind and has an ms in microbiology and phd in genetics. Maybe not as hands on as pipe fitting but he aced all of his labs and is now highly respected in his field

I've met some pipe fitters that you'd swear were blind.

"Legally blind" does not equal not being able to see.
"Most government agencies and health care institutions agree that legal blindness is defined as a visual acuity (central vision) of 20/200 or worse in the best seeing eye or a visual field (peripheral vision) that is limited to only 20 degrees. Visual acuity of 20/200 means that what the legally blind person can see at 20 feet, the average person can see clearly at 200 feet. As for visual field, the average person can see 140 degrees without turning his head."

I get it.
But for real, there's some interesting gizmos to get around the sight barrier. Even with dangerous things like saws!

Lol well blind, legally blind who gives a shite... Dude is disabled clearly and was given something he didn't earn. The instructor said that out of 400 students, probably only 50 legitimately earned the credentials.

Visual acuity of 20/200 means that what the legally blind person can see at 20 feet, the average person can see clearly at 200 feet.
This is basic business sense.

Watch the video and read the article. They stated he failed to complete numerous sections of training and they just gave him a passing grade and pushed him out the door basically. Him along with a lot of other students
