re: Internet Sales Tax passes Senate

I cant believe im agreeing with Bengal on this one.

I do find it rather stereotypical that the legislature chastised Jindals bill to remove income tax and jump to the opportunity to raise taxes some where else. I hope he can veto this bill if it pass through.

you do realize state governments do function without it, right?

Yes, and I realize I live in a state whose current tax setup includes sales tax which it's not getting its full share bc of the growing number of Internet purchases

If a state wants to go to full income tax, that's up to them

The topic is being forced by the Feds, backed by the sales tax collecting states undoubtedly

The rational solution was proposed by eBay's CEO. Raise the limit to $10 million OR 50 or more employees.

you are so for this bill i would think you went back and filed all those taxes from the online purchases you made throughout the years.

I don't understand how it's considered a money grab really

Its collecting taxes on things we consume, which is how our state tax system was designed

This is going to frick up Amazon

Not for me. I hate to shop, unless its for cars. Amazon takes anything back w/o a freakin' inquisition. I'll pay more to shop there. Eff Best Buy and Wal-Marks.

I think people are gonna be surprised.

Buy Amazon on the dip.

All it does is level the playing field
How does this level the playing field?

Brick & Mortar stores: Cost of goods + sales tax + you get your product at point of purchase

Internet: Cost of goods + shipping + you wait days to get your product....now adding sales tax? Internet will be at a severe disadvantage.

Why wait days to get your product when you can now pay less at your local store?

Sales tax where I live is 10%. I order almost everything online at a cheaper price, free shipping, and no sales tax. Over time, this saves a lot of money. If they pass this law and force Amazon and Ebay to collect taxes, I will not spend as much. Everyone thinks like me and we hurt the economy.

Amazon supports this bill as written, by the way. It won't hurt their business.

I suppose you are eager to correct me because the correct terminology is your district representative in the house.

Do you have anything constructive to contribute to the topic at hand?

No, it was serious question. Wanted to know what civics class you took to suggest that we should call our State Representative when a bill is progressing through Congress?

This issue itself? Meh, I'm agnostic toward it. I don't buy things online to save a few bucks off sales tax. I buy online for the convenience.
