This is kind of long, but if you love murder mysteries, then you will get through it quick like I did.

So did anyone actually read it?

I had to read all the way to the end to find out one of the victims was from Natchez. Will have to go back and reread it now.

Does one of the suspects have frost bitten feet?

I read a little, but very busy with work. Seems interesting. Will read later.

Kind of weird the hit man knew exactly where he would be. Probably a French inside job.

Great article. Thanks for the link.
Damn cliffhanger ending though. With all the research he did, you would've thought he'd given us some background on the wife's family.

There is definitely something they haven't found yet. That is way to random of an act.
Other than the bit at the end, there wasn't much info into the wife's family. I guess they went through all of that, but didn't have anything worthwhile.

It's an interesting read about an uncommon and unusually brutal, but completely random mass killing that has gained international notoriety due to its French scenic location, victims being Brits with some Iraqiness thrown in the mix and their distrust of all things French. Had these people made a wrong turn and wandered upon an overly protective redneck in rural Louisiana or had unwittingly walked up to a drug deal on the fringes of the French Quarter there'd be outrage but not all the wild conspiracy theories. These things will happen from time to time.
The link to the guy in Mississippi who happened to die, in very usual circumstances I might add, on the same day one of his ex-wives (he had like 3 others also) was murdered thousands of miles away is coincidental but not even that much. It's highly doubtful the guy was driving his pickup through Natchez, MS when he was shot by a poison tipped arrow designed to make it appear he suffered a heart attack. Yes that's one of the theories.
The amount of resources European investigators are willing to dedicate to this type of incident amazes me. Do you think the BRPD would make numerous requests to a foreign government to have one of its citizens body's exhumed and reanalyzed simply because he happened to die, of apparent natural causes, on the same day one of his exwives, from many years before, was gunned down on another continent with her family and a bicyclist, on a seldom traveled dead end road in a case that's only mysterious because it doesn't happen there very often and none of its other leads have panned out?

Hmmmm...
quote:
There was only one gunman. Maillaud is sure of that. The precision of the shooting, the two rounds in each head, suggests he is a professional; the number of bodies suggests he was experienced; and the attempted murder of a child suggests a hardened efficiency. Yet he left 21 shell casings on the ground, which a professional probably would not have, and he used an antique 7.65-millimeter Luger issued by the Swiss army more than 60 years ago, which a professional probably wouldn’t do, either. The investigators are certain of the weapon, because a piece of the butt broke off when the shooter fractured Zainab’s skull with it. They think he clubbed her because he ran out of bullets, which also is not professional.

Yeah, it seems like a professional would have plenty of ammo.
But, 2 cleans shots each to the head seems pretty professional to me.

Absolutely. 17 of 21 shots were hits, or something close to that.
