Has anyone ever used those lawnmower engines with wings? I think they are called ultralights. I was just wondering what is a cheap way to get into aviation besides getting your public license and buying or renting a plane.

Ultralights are badass.

All you need is a place to takeoff and land/crash/die.

I actually would like to die by freefalling and instantly merging with the ground so I'm gonna refrain from making fun of you for this.

I have a number of friends that have ultralights...some built their own and some bought theirs from others...

they are not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. however, they are within reach of most people, if that is something that you really want to do...

ultralights

These and hot air ballooning were two hobbies picked up by many of my dad's baby boomer friends. Two died in ultralights, another broke his back. My dad looked at buying a hot air balloon (the '90s were weird) before realizing he was too poor.

I was checking this out the other day.

They even have a jet version, but it cost 3x more.

Make sure you fly the ultralight in a place with a lot of power lines. I heard the magnetic field helps with flight.

It is funny. And you should understand why.

You started thread asking about Ultralights. You then somehow immediately progress to asking about cross country flights and an instrument rating. With passengers.

That's like asking someone how to row a pirogue and then asking how to get a 300' barge down the Mississippi river full of cargo. And then asking how to do it as cheap as possible.

God Bless that future wife of yours.
