Doesn't matter.

How much goes to the state and what does the place performing the inspection get?

The station gets $1, rest goes to state.

ps - most places do it to lure you in for other services (gas, market, detailing, etc)

That depends on which money hungry municipal govt sets up the checkpoint to raise revenue.

Louisiana road use tax is all an inspecting sticker or break tag really is. Cut on your lights, your turn signals, blow your horn and now give the State Of Louisiana 20 dollars for the privilege of driving.

TBH i'd gladly pay the 20 to make sure the ghetto POS's with no break lights can't (legally anyway).

When I lived in Kenner, getting a brake tag was the worst. There was only one place to get one, and at was run by these 3 old arse ornery cock suckers who had been working there for 50 years.

There is a place on Jefferson Hwy that does nothing else. I find it hard to believe they are making a profit that way.

That's the only place I go now. Have you seen how many people are constantly in line there? They're awesome.

I remember back in the 90's/early 2000's, you had to almost beg some a-hole at the gas station to get off their arse and do it. Sometimes they'd drag a fine toothed comb over every tinted window and blinker, other times they'd just literally say "OK" - scrape the old sticker off and put the new one on and go "That'll be $18.."

Regardless, it's still a racket.

There was a guy I used to go to on Airline near the Metairie/Kenner line that didn't even do that. He sat in a chair, he handed you the book to sign, you handed him $10, he handed you a rag and a scraper, you scraped it off yourself, then you handed him the tools back, he handed you a sticker, you put it on yourself, and off you went. I'm guessing he died cause it ain't there no more.

I actually got mine today. Guy checked a few things and drove it around the block. He said the only reason he does that is because now the state will send inspectors to hide across the street and film him.

Do a lot of business with the right garage or dealership and they'll slap one on there for you without the folderol of an inspection.
