Flying to Quito, Ecuador then driving to Puyo in a few weeks. Anyone ever been and have recommendations? Looking to spend some time in the rainforest. Hike, bird watch, check out the jungle at night with head lights, maybe search for artifacts...nature stuff. Any ideas are much appreciated.

Been there a bunch for work, and to Guyaquil a few times. Great food, some beautiful women. Haven't gotten out of the city too much except to go hiking around the equator monument. Haven't been there in a while but the dollar was super strong when I was last there. In fact, they had gone from the sucre to the USD to stabilize because it was trading at 50,000 sucres to a USD. We always stayed at the Hilton Colon. There was a Mexican restaurant behind the hotel that had a white tiger that just roamed freely around the restaurant like a pet. And oddly enough there's one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever eaten at not far from the hotel called Bruno's. Seafood is excellent there and most every other kind of food is available there as well. Have a good trip.

Hope you aren't planning to hit the ground running. Takes a bit to adjust to the altitude.

also, the elevation is right at 9400', I never had a problem with altitude sickness there but it's something to consider

Also, don't know if you're a soccer fan, but the Copa America is being played and Ecuador is in the tournament so maybe you could find some cool place to watch the game with locals.

Ecuador players were showing off their nipples at the World Cup. Unlike the American players who keep their nipples suppressed.

altitude sickness

We flew in to Quito for a Galapagos trip and the next day took a bus to the base of Mt. Cotopaxi which is pretty impressive. The parking lot is around 14,700 feet high, higher than any mountain in the US. The mountain itself is over 19,000 feet and has a permanent glacier nearly on the equator which is interesting. Everybody had been at sea level the day before and we had some really sick people. Not a good idea. Quito itself was't that bad.

I've heard really good things about birding in Ecuador, from people who run a birding lodge in Costa Rica. It's high on my bucket list.

Go to the Galapagos if you can. It's an amazing place. One of the best trips I have ever taken.

Are you sure it wasn't an Ecuadorian restaurant?
