Man, don't sweat it... whichever decision you make will be the wrong one anyway and you'll end up regretting it for the rest of your life.

Are you actually qualified for the outside position? If you are not, the existing establishment at the new company that was passed over for a promotion can make your life miserable. If you are truly qualified, act like it and go for it. This is business and your primary responsibility is to do the best for yourself and your family in balancing short and long-term goals.

Damn, this is probably the best post for any of these types of threads. Well done.

very true

I hope these threads like this are just subtle brag threads and people aren't really this indecisive to the point that they rely on advice from complete strangers on a message board.

Wait... you're worried about loyalty to a job that pays $25K/year?

Sounds like fry cook or the guy who goes around the parking lot bringing the buggies back in.

Loyalty is relative. I don't think for a minute that people I've worked with wouldn't jump ship to better their own careers or position. It's much harder to dump those anchors later on imo. I can't think of one coworker that I would ever judge for trying to do what they need to do.

Since you are not even sure if you will get an interview for this outside job, don't worry about it yet. Apply for the job and if you are fortunate enough to be offered the job, worry about it then. In the mean time, just take it one step at a time.

That and "money doesn't buy happiness" are loads of BS poor people tell themselves.

You can have both BTW. I know many wealthy people that do.
