Check out Death in the Empty Quarter set partly in south Louisiana and partly in the Middle East, written by a sometimes contributor to the OT.

I'll second the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn. Start off with the book Term Limits, and then read them in succession. You'll be busy for a while. I haven't read the Jack Reacher series but I'm assuming its pretty similar. LINK
ETA: Term Limits doesn't feature Mitch Rapp. But it has some of the same characters in it, and is a very good book.

Incredible book. I would put this down as a must-read.
I also second the Vince Flynn series, starting with Term Limits. My favorite series of all time. Right before the new author took over for Flynn (who passed away) I re-read the series. I've re-read a few single books, but never a whole series before.
Reacher is also really good, but mostly very different from Rapp. Rapp is a counterterrorist assassin working largely in DC and the Middle East. Reacher is a loner that often is pulled into something in a small town he has come across. There are some Reacher flash back books dealing with his time as an MP.
After Rapp and Reacher, check out the Scot Harvath books by Brad Thor. Much more in line with the Reacher persona. A bad arse that get's a lot accomplished on his own as he fights terrorists.
That's at least 40-50 books worth of reading!

True Believer: Stalin's Last American Spy by Kati Marton. Not really a war book but a really good read.

Hustler is always a good choice - for the articles of course.

How do you think it compared to Ramona Forever, which I consider Beverly Clery's magnum opus?
