If you've never read The Iliad, are you really educated?

My view is probably not. But that's me.

Good essay.

How does one make it through high school without reading the Illiad?

My thoughts exactly. I thought that and the Odyssey were required. At least once one gets in to college I would think.

Pretty sure I never read it. I could be wrong though. What's it about?

How am I even typing this without having read The Iliad and/or the Odyssey? Monkeys typing Shakespeare, monkeys typing Shakespeare.

Wall Street Journal is hardly liberal.

And I read The Iliad, The Odyssey, and translated The Aeneid from Latin. Also read The Persian Wars and The Peloponnesian Wars in one week for a grad seminar.

And with all of that Liberal Arts education, yep, you guessed it...I'm an electrical contractor.

They replaced it with the book "You're White, and You Should Feel Bad About It."

Unless you read it in Ancient Greek, I'm not impressed.

I'm assuming the person that wrote that didn't read it.

I'd say you never made it thru high school if you've never read it.

Have you ever *READ* the WSJ?!

quote:

The Journal??'?s editors stress the independence and impartiality of their reporters.[29] In a 2004 study, Tim Groseclose and Jeff Milyo calculated the ideological bias of 20 media outlets by counting the frequency they cited particular think tanks and comparing that to the frequency that legislators cited the same think tanks. They found that the news reporting of The Journal was the most liberal (more liberal than NPR or The New York Times). The study did not factor in editorials.[52] Mark Liberman criticized the model used to calculate bias in the study and argued that the model unequally affected liberals and conservatives and that "think tank ideology [...] only matters to liberals."[53]
I couldn't think of any articles in particular, but this excerpt lifted from Wiki is sourced...

It's listed under "Reporting Bias"
