Banks means that people working at the zoo tend to come from Baker and Plank Rd in Baton Rouge and would probably not have jobs if the zoo moved.

My opinion is that the zoo is not a goddamn jobs program and that anyone qualified to work there can still work there if it moves. They would just have to commute.

I have a better idea. Let's quit rubber-stamping the BREC tax renewal.

Here's the trade off - we keep the zoo in Baker and the EBR taxpayers get a bit of a break

Great idea - north BR politicians and SWB less likely to shoot down a relocation proposal that includes throwing $30 million in their direction. Current zoo is dying a slow death.

Only critique of the new park though - where the hell is the train? No train, no care says my 4 y.o.

Move zoo to the equestrian park on River road by L'auberge

Partner with LSU to create a new undergrad program in zoo management and Big Cat medicine.

We used to hop the levee and bomb golf balls at the anchored tankers on the Mississippi. At least you were giving that old man exercise.

This.

BREC is little more than a giant slush fund

Carolyn McKnight of Baker is a regular Walt Disney. Now why doesn't she raise her own capital to create her vision? Simple, other people's money is less risky and easy to spend.

BREC should NOT be in the business of building Mega Theme Parks on the taxpayers dime. This is outrageous and exactly why the BREC tax increase should never have been passed. BREC is getting too big and must be put back in its place.

I firmly believe that there will be a national push to dissolve zoos around the country on the next 5-10 years, so moving the zoo could be a potential financial disaster.

into a state-of-the-art regional park with tournament-quality soccer fields, horse trails, a practice track, water park, amusement park, boat house and adventure playground, as well as more picnic areas and green spaces.

Frankly I would rather have this in South Baton rouge than the zoo.
