I've only been an engineer in my career. 15 years, 4 different companies. I'm not a PE, and this is actually the first time that my immediate boss, who signs all of my work, is.

If you want to go up a notch, APC is probably the most popular brand in the $150-$200 category. Beyond that, it's Naked & Famous, Nudie, Rogue Territory, and others that can go from $200-$400.

I like nudie and naked & famous. Your best bet for these brands would be to order a bunch of different sizes/styles on Amazon and keep the pair you like the best and return the others worry free. Keep in mind selvedge and raw are 2 different things. Nudie makes a lot of raw jeans in lighter stretch denim, that aren't selvedge. This could be good if you like a tighter fit but don't want to feel like you are suffocating. I was browsing Amazon and they have some nudies for about $100.

I ended up ordering a pair of UnBranded 201s. I realized IDGAF if it's made in North Carolina or China. If I love breaking in and wearing selvedge denim I'll buy a $250 version next. Really liked Raleigh and Imogene + Willie.

Unbranded is a Naked & Famous brand.

Do these types of jeans come with built-in knee pads? I could see someone that wears these appreciating a good set of knee pads

They're thick, tough, and last forever. They aren't supposed to be washed. They are more like thick denim carhartts than anything.

This all sounds horrible.

Haha tend to agree. Thick rugged jeans probably have a place, but they're not on me in casual settings during a southern fall/winter/spring.

So where does all of the sweaty taint smell go if you don't wash them? If they're so tough, aren't they made to be worked in? What happens when you get bearing grease it gear oil on them?

If I were to spend that much money on pants that weren't supposed to be washed, I'd get Filson Tin Cloth pants

Wrangler 13mwz are 14.5 Oz denim but go ahead and blow all your $$$$ on some hipster brand.

I wen thru this search as well. Forget all those designer $250 pair (though I still want the Diesel turbo denim), Levi's makes raw denim for $60-$75. My first pair I broke in beautifully, but then they eventually shrunk from soaking. They went from dark navy blue, to faded with these badass honeycombs in the back. Working on my second pair, got a size up but just haven't had the commitment.

Would you really wear an expensive pair of selvedge to do these things?

I wouldn't wear a really expensive pair of jeans period. When I'm working all day, it's either 505s or Carhartt duck, but I do sweat every day

Don't get mad because you can't fit in 34s. Maybe if you got some $250 salvaged jeans, they'd stretch to fit after 6 months

I've heard the folks that buy the nice denim actually freeze their jeans to kill the bacteria and various other funktifications that build up during the day.
