It's common sense. But some are too impatient
Sure I want to go 80+ everywhere but that ain't happening

True but if everyone else is already in the other lane I don't feel comfortable being "that guy" and passing the whole pack. I don't think Bob did anything wrong until he got out of his vehicle though.

The best/ most consistent use of zipper merging that I experience is on northbound 190 in Covington where it becomes one lane at the Bogue Falaya bridge...

the worst is always the interstate because people always merge a half mile before the one lane point...

Nado would you mind answering 'John' by writing a post acting as 'Bob'.

Keep it short though...PV is watching.

TIA

I do what John does. frick those other people, you know the lane is ending, get in line like the rest of us.

But the other night heading back to baton rouge on I12 this guy kept trying to merge one lane to the other to pass people up. He basically was switching lanes and going no where. Dude says frick it and just zooms it on the shoulder and passes everyone up.

He was in one of the newer mustangs, I hope he fricked his car up. But how dumb can you be? I know in that car you can't see around people, what if there was a car on the shoulder? Plow rt into that.

The zipper merge is the biggest scam since the moon landings.

I understand. I always thought you might be a 'method' poster...Maybe that info will be forthcoming.

I now see that the OP has gone missing. I hope Bob did not find him.

I am thinking Bob might be driving a 5 series BMW. And has either argyle or motif style socks.

Was Bob attempting to perform a highway department approved zipper merge, or was he being a selfish prick and trying to illegally use the shoulder to pass?

Debatable. John blocked him right where the right lane ended. He never got a chance to pull over into the left lane, so he might have kept going down the shoulder to pass a few more cars, or he might have pulled in right in front of John...

It usually works, I still just get in the left lane. But I did come out of Walmart and stayed to the right over the weekend and this jack arse kept speeding up so I couldn't get over.

It drives me crazy that people don't understand they are supposed to keep using BOTH lanes until the actual merge point, then merge 1 car after the other.

This is Oregon. You have to understand, we can't pump our own gas. They have traffic signals at the bottom of the on ramps that let people know when it's OK to merge...

ETA. Never mind Portland. He was probably in an outback or a Forrester.

Silver Subaru Outback. John was driving a maroon sedan - a Camry, I think, but I could be wrong.
