So exercise more important than diet?
Terrell Owens used to just eat McDonalds during training camp. You tell me.

if your caloric intake is less than the amount of calories you burn then you will lose weight. Doesnt matter what you eat.
While that is true, that isn't very helpful. There is still a right and wrong way to eat. It's not just a matter of eat less. Our bodies don't treat all calories the same.

I have not been able to run, and have to walk for exercise.

Fried foods?
Of course. Skinny people should limit their intake of fried foods.
Sugar?
Cut it all out if you can. In fact, limit your carb intake to as low as possible. If your activity levels are low, carbs are not your friend.

Use this thread to update our weight weekly. I am sure the OT would love to poke fun at the two of us.
Go to the Food Board. There is an ongoing weight loss thread for just this reason.

Get on MyFitnessPal and start logging what you normally eat in a day. Do not cheat yourself or skimp on serving sizes. Be accurate.
Once you determine the amount of calories you typically eat, get on the IIFYM calculator and type in your measurements.
This will tell you how many calories you should be eating in a day to lose weight.
Then you can go back to MyFitnessPal and determine what foods you need to cut out.
This is a better way than going on a specific defined diet because it's not as much as a shock. You will be eating your normal foods with just a few changes - serving sizes or omitting a few items per day.
So if you typically eat something like a burger, fries, and coke for 1200 calories in a meal, you may cut out the coke and only eat half the fries, cutting that meal down to 800 calories, which isn't so bad depending on what else you eat during the day.
Next step is to add in some kind of strength training or cardio or both. This can be as simple as pushups, body weight squats, and crunches with a daily mile long walk.
I guarantee you will lose weight and look like a completely different person within 6 months.

Fwiw, I eat a lot of soup and those 2.50 healthy frozen meals from Walmart when I want to lose weight and workout.

If you drastically change your diet in a day, you will eventually just go back to eating other shite.
Start with cardio and limiting the bad foods and go from there.

Keto diet?
Ketogenic.
Little to no carbohydrates. It's a good short term fix.
Logging everything you eat and drink is the first thing you should do.

Fried foods for sure. And stop drinking anything with sugar, even juice, etc.

Genetics
Training

Keto diet?
Essentially 0-20g carbs per day. Lots of healthy fats and a good amount of protein. Your body, with the lack of carbs, starts using fat as fuel via ketones and the stored fat will also be used as fuel. Reddit has a lot of info.
Honestly, get lean protein, complex carbs, and fruit/vegetables of all colors... stay at a caloric deficit... and if you want to lose fast, do some HIIT. You'll be on your way in no time.

Diet is WAY more important than training for weight loss.

the specialty diets are mostly bs. I lost my weight pretty simply: calories in vs. calories out. you can't gain weight if you burn more calories than you eat (unless you have other health problems).. it's just that simple

While this is true, I've found cardio will force you to eat smarter. Think a Quarter Pounder for lunch but skipping the fries is a better choice? You'll regret that decision in about mile 2 on your afternoon run. Its the most effective dieting tool you can do.
