Geographically and historically speaking? Yeah. They’re the south. The culture and people couldn’t be further at odds with you’re average true blood southerner. Which, you being from Texas, I don’t expect you to understand what that means.

Guessing you have never stepped foot outside of a big city in North Carolina. The small towns are exactly like the ones in Alabama. They would laugh in your face if you told them they weren't Southern.

Rural Texas people are the exact same, you need to travel more. Just cause the geography is a little more hilly (in NC) or a little less green(in TX) doesn't mean the people are any different.

What's funny is in the rest of the South people argue if South Louisiana is even really Southern.

If we are just going by cities, I guess Georgia has lost their right to be Southern too.

I’m not even talking about the transplants. I’m talking about WNC. Appalachia. They have zero in common with what we would think of the south as. Transplants are another issue and why I continue to scoff at Texas pretending to be southern.

That's just one part of North Carolina though. It's like saying the Mexicans in South Texas represent all of Texas.

Besides the hills and Scots-Irish instead of English I'm not seeing a lot of difference though..

I live in Bryson City, clown. And travel all over the state. The hospitality, friendly nature and good, cultured food, doesn’t exist. You’re talking about rednecks. I’m talking about the true, old South. The thing people actually from here recognize.

So... you are going to double down on Appalachia being the only part of North Carolina? Can you give me a list of places where I can meet the "real South"? Cause every time I have gone I have seen plenty of rednecks.

Again, you’re talking about REDNECKS. We’re talking about the south. I don’t expect you to understand.

Who is we? You're not going to find many TDers to defend North Carolina not being Southern.

I wouldn’t define the old south by specific areas. It’s a culture. Which most of NC doesn’t posses. Old Charlotte and some surrounding areas I would say are old south, but the state itself is not what I would call the south. It’s redneck.
