I finally get why you switch in the Monty Hall puzzle

You have to look at the puzzle through the eyes of Monty Hall and not the game participant. You always switch to gain the best odds. It makes sense to me now.

I know, right? I now feel confident that I can explain the reasoning to someone else who does not understand the puzzle.

You have a 2/3 chance of initially picking wrong. Once you make a selection, Monty will reveal one door that is not the car. Once he has revealed this piece of information to you, statistics show that you have most likely picked a bunk door (a 2/3 chance of this happening) with your initial choice. You switch because of the reveal. You do not have a 50/50 chance once based on the boundaries of the game.

Thanks for the link. Although it does not explain why it works, that website shows us visually why we should change doors.
I finally understood this after listening to the this week's Cracked podcast. It makes a lot more sense to look at the problem not through the participant's perspective but as a third party observer.

I think that if people don't understand why you should switch, they may be latently homosexual.
