Anyone experience this?
I do sometimes and it feels like my heart rate has increased or skipped a beat

I thought this was going to be about trying to polish one off while falling asleep. Welp.

Happens to people quite often. Seems to be more so in those who are fighting sleep, possibly without realising it. (Racing thoughts, stress etc)

I have experienced this once or twice, not a fan of it.

Happens to me all the time. For a while it was happening every night, and it would cause me to be wide awake and take an hour or more to fall asleep. I found ensuring proper body temperature helped a lot. If I am even a little too warm, I know I will have a hypnic jerk, so I try to be a little cold while falling asleep. As a result, I turn down the heater at night and try to have one blanket too few during the winter.

Had phases where I literally couldn't sleep because it happened all night long. Miserable.

This was on a House episode. It didn't end well.

I get these frequently. Even went to a sleep clinic and did a sleep study. I was convinced it was sleep apnea. Turns out it was mental. Kolonopin works wonder my friend

Heart rate decreases ---> body thinks it is dying ---> reflexive clonus to try and increase in heart rate

I do this from time to time.
I remember doing this for the first time as a kid. I was dreaming that I was about to jump over a fence and kinda jumped or "jerked" while sleeping.
Ever since, I've still done this, but not that often. Usually happens when I'm trying to fall asleep and I don't think I've noticed doing this in the middle of night, you know once I've been asleep for a while.

Had an ex girlfriend who did this. She would be asleep on her back and then all of a sudden her right arm would jerk up in the air like she was doing the Hitler salute.

That's called a hypnopompic jerk. Or she was just literally doing the Hitler salute.

My fiancee tells me I do it as I fall asleep every night. It has woken me up a couple of times. I have no idea why I do it.

Better than exploding head syndrome (I didn't name it). I've had that happen twice. Holy shite that's scary.
