HVAC guys...what is considered to be the best AC units for residential use nowadays?

May have to end up replacing my home unit soon and looking for recommendations for which brands would be the best, weighing cost vs efficiency? Basically which brands will give you the best bang for your buck without spending a fortune? TIA
ETA: Also, don't know if it matters, but my units are electric, not gas.

I'm a huge fan of Carrier.

And to piggy back to the same crowd: Firebird or Camaro?

what is the sweet spot?
gas heat, electric ac? i fricking hate heat pumps.
worth it to buy higher SEER ratings?
wtf with UV lights to zap dust?
built-in whole home humidifier/dehumidier?
is that a bunch of hocus pocus? i'm curious as well as i'm considering replacing my aging unit thats 30 years old with something more modern.

Is Trane any good? Does Carrier carry a better warranty than others?

I bought my system online and installed it myself with the help of a friend and had a certified tech come in and braze my fittings, pull the system down and verify everything was working ok.
BTW, most new condensing units do not come pre charged with Freon.

Lennox, trane, carrier.
For the most part all of their warranties are basically the same.

I would NOT go with Trane.
Every time I get the annual checkup for either the heater or the AC there's something wrong with it.

this is the ultimate DIY. i was quoted 7K for a new 3ton 'all in one' system. looks like there is about 50% profit/install cost rolled into that.

What was your total out of pocket cost?

It's very easy to do. Turn on your old ac system, close the high side line and let the suction line suck in all the freon into the compressor then shut it off and close the port. Cut lines with tubing cutter and seal off with caps.
Take out old units install new ones and call in a certified tech to braze the lines and pull the vacuum on the system and charge it.
I paid $2300 with free shipping on my complete syste mand paid a tech $175 to braze the lines and charge. Additional $45 for the freon. 410 freon is very cheap

I'll get slammed but since Daikin bought Goodman the QC has been fantastic and is actually a very solid hvac unit.

I like Lennox and American Standard. Have had bad experience with Carrier in past, but heard they are getting better.

Trane and Rheem are what I would buy. I have worked on them for 20 yrs and these 2 are in a class of their own.

i only had 3lbs left in my 10lb system and it ran me $500 for the freon charge since its the 'banned freon' from the 80s
i cant keep paying that kind of money for a little gas. its retarded.

Bought a 1 year old house that came with Rheem units. Ive heard they suck but hopefully not. (I did have a coil replaced already but thankfully it was under warranty). Outside of warranty I think that's a $1600-2k arse bath.

i was just reading around on this and it seems most of the goodman hate comes from poor installs related to the fact goodman will let anyone buy their units vs carrier, etc who require certified installers.
in other words, the units aren't at fault as much as who put it in.
