Sounds like motor bearings, but could also be something with the wheel itself.

Is there an inexpensive way to distinguish between the two?

Nice work, TM. That's a bearing screaming.

I'd go to further lengths to hide my identity on here, there's folks who will make you wish you had.

Sounds like the squirrel cage is rubbing on the housing. Might check for contact by rotating it by hand. May be loose or broken motor brackets.

The bearings on the squirrel cage are bad.

Motor is shot.

Typically if the blower wheel is bad you would hear/feel/see vibration and imbalance in the squirrel cage wheel.

Try and get the goodman part number for the motor and shop around for a local dealer. I would think the motor is a stock item at a supply house. Not a hard thing to change and if you get the Goodman part it should be plug and play. Look on youtube for some videos too. Typically the cage and motor slide out of the housing together. Don't beat on the motor shaft end too much or it will mushroom and make it harder to slide off the blower wheel.

Had a Tempstar blower motor go bad on a 10 yr old unit and the part was $250. Changed it myself in about an hour.

This very well could be it also.Just a loose set screw caused the wheel to move down and start rubbing on the housing.

One thing I do, whenever I diagnose a motor (and not everyone can figure out wiring and do this) I bench test it.
With no fan on it, no attachments, if the motor runs good with nothing on it, it's probably okay. If the motor alone is noisy, you know your initial diagnosis was sound.
If it was wrong, in removing it and ruling it out, you make it a lot easier to find the real culprit of the problem.

Cool! The video has been removed so tell me, was the sound steady or alternating in any form? If alternating it could be a light imbalance caused by lint and such building up on the squirrelcage.

Did you try the ac to see if cold air changes anything? Still sounds like metal to metal contact with the squirrelcage.

Eta: the fan runs at a higher speed for ac.

No, have not tried a/c function. Rotate by hand and doesn't seem to be any problem. In a condo, so workspace is tight and access very limited.
