Tuesday 7/12/2016 - 11 am ET/10 am CT: Even though the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico continues to be quiet today (completely normal and is expected for early-mid July), there are strong signals in the data that suggests that the Atlantic Basin is going to wake up as we head towards the end of this month with tropical development quite possible.

It looks like the overall pattern across the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico will shift into a favorable state for tropical development with decreasing wind shear, lowering barometric pressures and a upward motion pulse of the Madden Julian Oscillation impacting the Atlantic Basin by about July 21st to July 31st.

Here's to hoping this season is mild or non-existant.

Please stay the hell away from LA
My dog won't go outside if there is thunder from BR, to MS, to the coast.
He is great at holding it, but I rather not tempt fait.

Euro isn't on board with more favorable conditions, and I wouldn't pay much attention to shear maps 16 days out. That's not to say it won't be active, but aside from historical analogs saying "Yeah this time of year activity picks up", there's not much to say it will be more favorable. All it takes is one, but lets hope we don't get that one.

They said the same shite about El Niño helping the drought here in California and that didn't happen so I wouldn't count on it.

I generally like to pay attention to something that could potentially kill me and/or destroy my home.

I pay attention as well, but I don't get giddy like a schoolgirl when something develops. Hard on may not have been the best way to describe it but it seems like some folks here get excited for the season and hope for some activity.

Some people get aroused by the idea of their home destroyed and dying.

Don't question it, or their religion. Accept it as part of life.

I get excited by the prospect of a day off of work, but the reality of sitting home with no electricity is infinitely worse.

Just fill up the tub and don't get out until the power comes back on.

You'll be soaked either way.

They're going out on a limb if they think there's an increased chance of hurricanes in August.
