He stopped act of suicide (which she likely encouraged)

Called her

She had control of him at that point and told him to finish it

He did

She's a smoking gun

The bomb threat person who causes a stampede that kills a person did t stampede over the dead person but their words directly led to that death

unless he was a quad or mentally retarded, this is patently false

we all control our own decision making

the person who died in this scenario is not comparable, b/c they didn't choose to kill themselves like this boy did

y'all keep creating these arguments that are not only srawmen, but are irrelevant

I'm guessing there is no law that pertains to conspiring with someone to commit their own suicide?

Seems to be the case here.

From reading the article, she did assist him in some way. I can see charges sticking.

i would seriously doubt it. this is likely an old common law "law" that is massively vague and the prosecutor is trying to get some publicity by pulling a jack mccoy by pulling some shite out of his arse. compare this to a "doctor assisted" suicide murdder charge and it's night and day

if there is some law that is so vague this would fall within it, then that law should have been nullified a long time ago by a court of law

If the get a conviction from what was posted in the article it will set HORRIBLE prescedent. Where does it end if you convict her for telling him to "do it".

Apparently the precedent has already been set.

quote:

William Francis Melchert-Dinkel, from Faribault, Minnesota, United States)was found guilty of encouraging people to commit suicide while he watched voyeuristically on a webcam. He allegedly told those contemplating suicide what methods worked best, that it was a decent choice to commit suicide, that they would be better in heaven, and/or falsely entered into suicide pacts with them, which he then abandoned. Melchert-Dinkel was convicted of two counts of assisting suicide, for encouraging the suicides of a person in Britain in 2005, and another person in Canada in 2008.

I agree. It's so silly to see SFP acting like he is a lawyer on here and IRL.

He even set up a fake office, website, sees clients, and goes to court just to keep the ruse up.

explain how she facilitated the boy's suicide, please

it seems like he took care of his suicide himself. a very sad situation that i am far too familiar with, but all his own choice/action

It's really no different than sending a hitman to kill someone, you're still going to be charged as a principle. Did you have specific intent, through your actions, to cause great bodily harm or death? Check.

When I was in college, I worked at a group home for the mentally ill. Lots of nights the patients would come to the office claiming they were suicidal in hopes of getting attention or some meds. Lots of times staff would respond with go ahead. Patient would then realize they were not going to get attention or meds, so would go return to their room.

I have no idea if this was right or wrong, just pointing out we were trained to not feed into attention seeking behavior. As far as the girl, I think its a reach to say she led him to commit suicide. However, she should have called 911.

On July 27, 2012, the Minnesota Court of Appeals affirmed the conviction. The Minnesota Supreme Court subsequently agreed to review the case. On March 19, 2014, the supreme court reversed the conviction and remanded.[40] The high court held that the Minnesota statute under which Melchert-Dinkel had been convicted was unconstitutional in part. The court held that merely advising or encouraging suicide was speech protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, and that those prohibitions were unconstitutional. It went on to hold, however, that speech which actually assisted a suicide was not protected.

per wiki. don't know what happened after that

Oh now stouts a lawyer too

Lots of cases like this have already led to conviction

If someone tells you they are suicidal it is your duty to get them help not encourage them to do it
