How to ugrade iphone with AT&T

I have been researching the best way to upgrade my phone with AT&T but the new fees are confusing and look way more expensive.
I am eligible for an upgrade and don't even need the newest version. Usually I wait for the new iPhone to come out and get the previous version for $49 or $99.
Is there any current way to do this?

Not a technical question. This is a purchasing question.

Tech stands for technology, not technical But given that you don't understand the new pricing structure, I'm not surprised you didn't get that.

I know what tech stands for...still not a technology question.
It's like your old posts on where to find the best dildos...you post that on this board even though the ones you buy have tons of technology

Buy a used previous model iPhone and tell att you want to switch to the NEXT pricing model
You'll save money in the long run

The answers you want are just a click away, but feel free to keep keeping on here.

I do not think you can do this in the store but may still be able to do it online.

It's pretty much the same price as before, the only difference is now they've separated the price of the phone from the price of the phone service. Before the price of the phone was hidden in your monthly subscription so if you didn't upgrade your phone after 2 years, you essentially kept making payments on something you had already paid off. Now once you've paid for the phone you don't keep giving AT&T more money unless you're ready to get a new phone.

Just buy the phone outright. Your bill will be many times cheaper. I pay $50/month with my Android.

It makes no difference if you buy the phone outright or pay it over the installments. Say the phone costs $650. Either way, you pay the sales tax the day you buy it. Buying it outright, you'll pay $640 plus tax. Doing the installment plan, you'll pay the tax day one, and 650 divided by however many installments you choose (I believe they offer 2 lengths). The service will cost the same either way.

The only ways to really save are to buy a used phone, find one on sale, or buy online to try and avoid sales tax
You also save by keeping the phone as long as possible

2 items
1)You're locked into a contract by doing so. If ATT screws him over he cant leave without paying to do so. If you buy the phone outright you can change carriers at a whim, not to mention go overseas and not get extorted for using international plans.
2)I think your math is off. I had an iPhone before, and paid $100/month to get locked into a 24 month contract, and paid I think $100 for the phone. Doing the math $100 x 24 months + $100 for the phone= $2500.
Compare that with paying $50/month and paying $650 for the phone outright. (50x24)+650=$1850
Your savings get even bigger if you an android vs an iPhone.

No you're not. You c an cancel anytime with the installments, just have to pay your phone balance.

I'm not talking about a contract with subsidized pricing of the phone.

The type of phone doesn't matter. The only thing you'd save on is cost of the phone. You're not comparing apples to apples. I really don't get what so confusing about the new pricing.

WTF? That doesn't make sense. If you purchase a used iphone, there is no need to get on the NEXT plan. NEXT is an installment plan for purchasing a new phone.
Here's the rub on what ATT and the other phone companies have done. You can't get a free or cheap phone any more by simply signing a contract. Now you have to make concessions. If you sign a contract, you'll likely lose some discounts that you have. For me, I have a $20 per line discount, so if I were to sign a contract, I'd get a nice shiny new phone for a discount, but would pay $20 more a month on my bill. That sucks IMO. ATT next is a better option, because you don't have to pay any up front cost for the phone and you'll just pay installments toward the cost of the phone. Once you've paid it off, your phone bill will go down because the installments were removed.
Both plans suck for the consumer that used to just sign a new 2 year contract and get a new phone for cheap. Now, I just buy a used phone on craigslist and keep all of my discounts. I stay 2 models behind, but I don't mind.

You're basically completely wrong, especially with that last paragraph.

Thats false. The phone payments are not a contract, but more of a guideline. You can pay off the phone at any time if you so choose to, but with no interest being charged for putting it on a payment plan, I went that route. My total bill through AT&T is $96 a month, with $27 being for my iPhone 6 (for 24 months), $7 for insurance, and the remaining $62 for 3 GB data and unlimited talk and text. If I pay off my phone tomorrow, I could take it and go to another service provider if I so wished. All cell service companies are getting away from contracts and focusing on simply beating out competitors on price/data offered and discounts given to customers. They used to give discounts on the actual phones for signing contracts, but they now make users pay for the price of the phone regardless, and give discounts elsewhere.
ETA: Total value of my iPhone 6 is $650, so 24 payments at $27 equals what I would have paid up front had I so chosen to go that route. To me, I didnt mind doing a payment plan because this is my 2nd iPhone, previous iPhone 4 lasted me almost 3 years. Im on the ATT Next Gen plan, so when the 7 comes out I will have the option to upgrade then for a reduced price. If I have not paid off my 6 by then, I can trade in my 6 for a 7, but if I paid off my 6 by then, I can sell it off or keep it (obviously). Its basically a giant phone rental/lease system now is what I gathered from it all, unless you so choose to pay it off upfront or through the plan.

Thanks. I have been buying my phone outright for some time. Haven't been aware of the new pricing schemes they came out with.

Sure it makes sense
The next pricing doesn't include the cost of a phone if you already have one.
I maybe could have worded it better but I wasn't wrong
