re: How to tell if you've broken a bone in your leg or it's just bruised

Lotta people in here who have no idea about broken bones.
You could have a hairline fracture that only produces a bruise and still be able to everything you mentioned without pain.
When I was 15 I had a hairline fracture in the lower part of my leg. Basically my ankle. And I played in a basketball tournament the next week with a brace on. I've had other ankle/lower leg injuries that were only tissue damage, and I couldn't walk normally or play sports for 2-4 months.
Go get an Xray.

Highly doubt it's a break. Those are excrutiating though. I've got a spot on my right shin that still bothers me, and it's been 14 years since I hit it on a metal folding chair while running full speed during a basketball drill.

I'm an NP in an ER.....one thing I have learned is to never guess. I have seen swollen ankles I would have bet the farm were broke and vice versa.
X-ray is the only definitive way to know if it is broken, outside the bone sticking out the skin. Bite the bullet and get an x-ray. Otherwise quityerbitchin, and suck it up.

Western medicine uses x Ray.
OP should try using leaches to drain the foul humours.

An x-ray, and someone who knows how to read it.

Not broken.
I've seen two people in my life who didn't know they had broken bones.
Trust me, you'd know
I broke a bone in my finger during a training exercise. It bruised and became swollen. After a week of no noticeable improvement, I got it x-rayed. Turns out it was fractured. I honestly didn't know it was broken. Then, again with 10 fingers, injuring 1 just wasn't as much as an inconvenience as maybe it would be with more weight bearing appendages like an arm or leg.

Use a tuning fork and if it's fractured the vibrations will cause terrible pains.

I fractured under my knee between my growth plate and tibia, and continued jogging class at LSU and cutting grass every afternoon for a week and a half. I could feel it slightly grinding, and I couldn't walk at the end of each day. Finally went to the hospital to get X-rays and CT scans, and on the way out of the parking lot, the radiologist called and told me that my leg was fricked up. He was amazed that I was walking around, and told me I needed to be in a cast.
So yes, you can both run and cut grass with a fractured leg. You just have to be tough as nails and dumb as a box of rocks

If you have to ask it probably isn't broken

Tie a washer to a string, and hold it over your leg. If the washer sways back and forth, not broken. If it moves in a circle, it's broke.
else, get an xray.

I broke my leg a few months ago and there was little doubt. No weight at all and instant pain.
Not a doc but if you can do what you say you can, it doesn't sound broken.

Take a salt tablet and visit a ND.

Africa doesn't have Doctors? You'll be fine...use epsom salts.

It's not broken. I had a hairline fracture in my leg once and couldn't even think about putting weight on it.

You definitely need an X-Ray. Twice I’ve have fibula fractures where the ONLY symptom was the nagging pain. The first time I went several days with normal activities thinking it was arthritis or something before I got it checked out. The second time, well I’d learned my lesson from the first time, but otherwise would’ve never guessed it was broken.
