I'm under final consideration for a job right now, and if I accept, the first 6 months are a probationary period with no benefits, no vacation, and no sick days. It's a union position in a Fortune 100 company, so I assume they'll have some provision for probationary employees who are completely incapacitated with something like the flu, but I want to take as many precautions as I can between now and Dec. 1 to ensure I can remain in good health for the duration.

I'll be getting a flu shot and adding plenty of veggies to my diet. What else can you guys suggest for improving my chances of making it from December 2015 through May 2016 w/o illness?

BTW, I'm not OT rich, but this job will eventually lead to an operator-type position w/ excellent pay, benefits, etc. I've run my own business for the past decade, but I'm ready to give up my 80+ hour workweek in favor of punching a time clock (or whatever the hell real jobs require).

TLDR:
FCP starts job w/o sick days on 12/1.
FCP must survive until 6/1 to get benefits.
FCP seeks OT's wisdom re: ways to remain healthy from 12/1 to 6/1.

I would suggest starting with sticking a banana in your arse, then gradually move onto bigger things, like cucumbers or bowling pins. That way, you'll be used to getting screwed.

Don't ask me. I can't make it a week without leaving early or "working from home".

Also, the constant worrying about not getting sick is guaranteed to make you sick.

December through May? That's the height of the cold and flu season. You might have to feign being healthy even if you are sick a couple days

That being said:
Work out regularly
Eat healthy
Get plenty of sleep
Try to keep your stress level as low as you can

Why does your coverage need to change then until your new company picks you up?

Instead of gambling, get your own coverage. Sounds like you've been uninsured for a long time. Have you heard about that new program called Obamacare?

Don't so stupid shite for starters like get drunk in public, play beach volleyball, parkour, etc.

Eat balanced meals, get good nights sleep.

Take vitamins and natural sources of all the good stuff as well in fruits and veggies.

Stretch alot and reduce impact exercises.

and FWIW, the people making fun of this policy are goobers. It's quite normal for new hired engineers to operators. You'll be a 6 figga operator in no time.

Good luck. You're the exact reason I'd never want to own my own business from ground up. Now buying one would be nice.
