How to be a good American.

With all this talk about putting, or not putting your hand over your heart during the National Anthem, it got me thinking about what it really means to be a good American.

I came up with five essential things that I believe makes a person a good American.

1. Support yourself

Obviously there are situations when people will need help, but if you are an able bodied American you need to find a way to support yourself and any minors that are dependent upon you.

2. Pay your taxes

While minimal taxation is better for everybody, there are taxes that are necessary to run this country, and If you live here you need to pay them.

3. Support our Military

We all have opinions about our foreign policies, but whether or not you agree with everything we do, the fact remains that we need a strong military. Whether you served or not, it is important that all citizens know the importance of the military and give them the support and respect that they deserve.

4. Support Law and Order

A great civilization cannot exist without law and order. Anybody who thinks otherwise is a fool. One of the most important things you can do as an American is to obey the laws that are voted on by the people, and support those that enforce them lawfully.

5. Treat Non-Americans with respect

As a representative of America, it is important that we treat Non-Americans that are here legally, or Non-Americans that we encounter abroad, with respect. When representing a great country we need to be great people.



If a person can live by these 5 rules, I couldn't care less if they put there hand over their heart during the National Anthem or know all the words to the Pledge of Allegiance. They are good Americans in my book.
