In my experience, having lived in New Orleans for almost 10 years, most people there don't even know the rest of LA exists.

I dated a girl from N.O. back then who appeared to be relatively sane and well educated (Masters in Education). She went to LSU for one semester and moved back to NOLA because she was homesick.

I doubt she could find Lafayette on a map, and I'm pretty sure she'd never heard of Alexandria, Shreveport, Monroe or Lake Charles.

I grew up in & went to college in North Louisiana & then lived in New Orleans for 10 years. This map is frighteningly accurate. It is absolutely amazing how little New Orleans natives know or even care about the rest of the state.
