How much does a load of dirt cost?

I need about 15 loads of dirt and was wondering about how much a load costs. I'm not looking for sand or topsoil. Just need a filler.

What do you consider a load? A dumptruck full?

Sounds like you need about 250-300 yards of dirt. A few major variations are the bulk pricing, what type of dirt (i.e. spillway mud), and how from from the spillway you are having it delivered.

I played 85 for a 14 yard truck last month in Ascension

Well, there are short dump truck loads and long dump truck loads.

There's a few dirt services where I live. I'm looking for the cheapest shite out there.

I usually charge $500 for a load or an hour. Whichever comes first...

I live pretty close to the St. Helena Parish gravel pits, so I get it pretty much at the minimum cost (ie, not a long distance for the trucks to run). The last time I needed "filler" dirt, I was getting it for $75 per 12 yard load. A couple of years ago I got a local guy to bring in 2 loads at his convenience, and he charged me a straight $50 per load. Unless it's topsoil or some particular types of clay, the pit gives the "filler " product away, so you are basically paying for the truck and driver--something which is otherwise billed around $75 to $100 per hour.

I just wanted a general idea of what I was looking at. I had no idea of about how much it would cost.

Like I said, too many variations to really tell, and I've never bought that much dirt at once. In Metairie, a load of 12 yards will run about 150 bucks. You need 20 times that amount. Bulk pricing and being closer to a supplier would help. You're basically paying the truck for the gas and time so the truck size and a shorter distance would greatly reduce the price.

good luck

If you need that much, no sense in paying someone with a small truck to haul so much. Call around and look for a 20+ yrd trailer.

Something very common around here is to put up a sign that says "Fill Dirt Wanted". Include something that says no wood though or you will have to deal with that rotting over time. Someone will bring you some dirt especially if your around any area of business or home construction.
