How Many More Centuries Until the Next Step in Human Evolution?

Cro-Magnon Man, Neanderthal, Homosapien. What is the next step and how long until we evolve?

We are evolving now. It's more of a gradual process. We are taller and less hairy than even our ancestors of the last few centuries.

I mean a big change where we are no longer classified as human beings.

I'm hoping to hit enlightenment tomorrow. You can thank me once it spreads like the 100th monkey effect dictates.

Humans will be wiped out before another big change happens.

What features will be part of the natural progression?

There will never be a big change, just lots of little changes that no one notices. Then one day people will look back over the centuries and realize "Holy crap, we've changed so much."

In terms of major evolutionary changes, I think we're done. There are no evolutionary pressures anymore now that our weak can survive and I don't think we will have a major evolution as long as our tech keeps improving

Within the next 50-100 years, humans will be genetically engineered, man-machine hybrids.

Carson, that was my first thought as well. But when you think about it, the ability to care for the turds of society will only last as long as prosperity, which is a blip on an eon after eon length timescale.

My guess and it's purely a guess, is that the next stage will be (relatively) soon, and it will be genetic and other advanced forms of body/brain/tissue enhancements. There will be a class of the enhanceds, and the enhancednots.

What you're talking about probably will happen relatively soon but it won't be because of evolution/natural selection but more because of technological advances in healthcare. Which is basically the same divide we already have now between the developed and undeveloped worlds.

Yeah, what I'm saying is the next step won't be natural. I think the next step will replace natural evolution, and since the technology to do so will be developed long before the nearly millions of years it takes for nature to give us a boost... it just makes sense.
