I'm ok with it going away. It is annoying to have no mail, no banks, and no government offices when the rest of us have to work.

I'd much rather the holiday be switched to election day. Makes WAY more sense.

i like Columbus Day cause it reminds me of how the real world works.

People act like the indians had some moral claim to the Americas. People call them "indigenous". They werent indigenous. They migrated to that land same as anyone.

Look, a country isnt a country because you draw a line on a map or plant a flag in the ground. Its a country because of what happens when you cross that line. Every country in the world is taken and defended by the people who are capable of doing it.

Same as your house. Thats why the 2nd amendment is important. Its not your house cause of the title or your name on the mortgage. Its your house cause of what could happen if someone tries to take it.

We still live in the jungle folks, we've just cut down the trees.

I never really knew people really celebrated Columbus Day until 10-15 yrs ago someone mentioned a local government agency had off for Columbus Day and I was like "WTF? They take off for everything huh?" then from there it seemed like I became more aware that it was more celebrated than I assumed.

Are there any special parades or something people get together, get drunk and do shite in celebration of I am not aware of?

I don't ever recall celebrating Columbus Day... I don't ever remember getting off from school or work.

I'll be honoring the great man by enslaving some indians for the day.

Most large cities that have a sizeable population of people of Italian heritage have a parade and/or fair for it. NYC, Chicago, San Fran, etc.

The San Fran one is called the Italian Heritage Day Parade, or some such.

Plus, what would replace indians if kids couldn't play cowboys and indians?

Im loving it. The phones and emails are dead today. I work with NYC at they have the day off so I'm just sitting at the office on TD. Tomorrow will probably suck though.

It's now Indigenous Peoples Day here in Denver.

Monday marks the first Indigenous Peoples’ Day since the Denver City Council unanimously passed a resolution permanently marking the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
