Looking for a cheap and dependable AWD vehicle and I like the looks of the rav4 on paper.

It's the small SUV, and it feels like it, but if that is what you want, it's the best one out there. CRV would be next, everything else is poor.

Mazda or Subaru. Rav4 is miserable to drive. Soul crushingly bad.

Let me ask my retired neighbors.

I bought an '08 as a commuter vehicle. Currently has 214k miles. Been nothing but good to me. It is a yota after all.

Bought a 2013 for the wifey... she loves it.
The head room sucks and I'm not even 6ft; thats my only complaint.
Bought a 2007 CRV for one of my kids... very good vehicle also.

It's Toyota's best selling vehicle right now. Has to have something good going for it.

Daughter has a 2011. Tried to talk her out of buying it because of their poor history for early models. She has 60K on it without a single issue. As mentioned, it is not a comfortable vehicle to be in for long trips but it is well made and Toyota definitely improved the quality through the years.

The new ones are damn good. So are a lot of its competitors. The CRV, the Mazda CX-5, Nissan Murano... all will probably last you 10 years easy.
Personally I prefer the Mazda.

Wife used to have one. Great as far as dependability, but the interior is extremely small, imo. If you can deal with that, go for it.

Is that the vehicle with bicycle tires?

Around Christmas I bought a 2011 RAV4 from my Aunt. It's comfortable to drive and much more versatile than my old civic.
Passenger room is about the same as my civic, but I use it mostly as a daily driver.
The four cylinder is zippy enough, but apparently the AWD V6 was the quickest production vehicle Toyota made for a few years.
My complaints are some minor electrical issues with the stereo and door locking system. My paint has a large chip on the roof, and a few other blemishes. Also, the interior feels a bit cheap, rattles, and the cup holders are aweful. There is also an issue with water occasionally somehow leaking onto the driver side floor. It's either the sunroof drain or the air conditioning system.
So while I like the functionality of the car, I have been disappointed with some of the quality. Although, I suspect that mechanically it will run forever.
My dad has a fully loaded 2016 model. It has a much nicer fit and finish. Very surprising how much more solid it feels.
