It is not hard at all but you would be best served taking lessons. The way you grip the racket is very important to maintain control of the ball. It is not like baseball where you just grip the bat one way and hit the ball. The lessons will greatly help you learn the various strokes needed to be successful and racket grips that go along with it.

Like others have said, being able to control the ball and keeping it within the lines is way more important than power especially if you can move well on the court.

It's over 3.5 miles to walk a 6500 yard course if you hit it right down the middle every shot. You can easily get good exercise playing golf.

3.5 miles on mostly flat terrain is not exercise. One could argue that lugging your clubs that far counts, except that you set them down and rest a couple of mintes between 70 and 100 times while you and your buddies swing at the ball.

Tennis is very easy to pick up if you're naturally athletic. Though if your not into all of the sprinting, racquetball might be a good choice.

Eta: If you choose racquetball, make sure you remember your sweatband and sport goggles.

tennis is a good sport and is fairly easy to pick up, if you get some decent instruction. you will be paired with folks who are equal or slightly better than you, so that works out fine.

trouble you will have at your age is being injury prone and healing slowly when you do get injured.

Walk 18 holes on most of the courses in CO and get back to me.

As markers mark said pickle ball. Very similar to tennis and played indoors on a basketball court. Very easy to pick up if you played any tennis.

If played with good players for an hour or two you will be very winded.

My wife started in her 40s and is doing great. Get lessons right away. You do not want to form bad habits. You can play aginst people your level and it will be a lot of fun. Try to join a club that has a men's night or some sort of pick up play to find new people to hit with. Good luck, have fun.

If you're in baton rouge, join bocage racquet club. Grade A milf talent to watch while sipping whiskey on the deck after you give up trying to play tennis.

Get lessons from a pro.

Don't listen to these people that are saying it's easy. It's not an easy sport, especially learning at an older age. This is why I say get lessons from a pro. Get good technique from the start from them.

Once you have some lessons down, they can probably point you to some comparable players at the club to play with.

Again I lol at people saying it's an easy game.

This. Find somebody who is roughly just as good (bad) as you.
I recently picked up tennis (in my 20s), and I've found the key to enjoying it is playing with somebody who messes up just a much as you do.

Tennis is easy to pick up, but hard to get good at unless you play fairly often. It's a great sport.... especially the social aspects if you join a club like Bocage.

Southern Oaks Athletic Clubs offers tennis lessons in Baton Rouge for both kids and adults. Their reviews are pretty good on Google and I've seen their facility, it's one of the nicest in town.

Tennis and golf are the easiest sports to learn at that age and tennis is cheap. My aunt never played until 50 and she doesn't tournaments all the time at a decent level.

At 60 I started playing racquetball, am now 61.

Has some similarities with tennis...:-)

I play racquetball (and I'm considerably younger than you). It's a sport that really contours to the player's age. If you've incredibly athletic, quick, and intense...so is your racquetball game. If you're 60, slowed down a bit, and looking to play a slower pace of game...you can do that too.

Tennis is easy to pick up. I played a good bit when I was in High School. The rules are simple and easy to learn. The only hard part is developing a good serve, which I was never really able to master. Only thing tough for someone older picking it up is that it can be tough on your legs. I would avoid it if you have any knee or ankle issues.

But can you get fall down drunk playing tennis?

I trend toward the slower pace of game and enjoy immensely. Also swim and try to keep toned with light exercising.
