How hard is installing cabinets?

How hard can it be? I have never done it before but I am a pretty handy DIYer and I have some help. Can I install myself with good measurements?

I am sure that is all it takes. Being handy with a ruler

This is up there with replacing garage door springs. Hire someone to do it right.

Harder than cutting a check.

You absolutely can install them yourself. How good it will look is a different matter.
Getting things level and square will be more important than good measurements.

It isn't hard. I have remodeled 3 kitchens with new cabinets. Key thing is to have a 2x4 mounted on the wall that is level so you can rest the wall cabinets on them while mounting. This ensures your wall cabinets are level. Just make sure you have enough clearance between the top of the cabinet and the soffit above it. Next hardest thing is finding the studs behind the sheetrock. If you are gutting entirely down to studs, my advice is to place plywood on the section of the wall where the cabinets will be going. This allows you to screw right into the plywood without having to locate studs. If you have sheetrock already installed, try marking the 2x4 on the wall where the studs are so you have a good idea.

Kitchen cabinets?
to answer your question - If your floor and walls are perfectly straight and level its easy. If not you'll frick it all up.

There a lot of details that need to be added before anyone can accurately answer this question. Some cabinets are simple, and some aren't simple. There are kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, etc.

Not too bad. For a first timer, just watch YouTube videos

Its a bitch and will take forever to get everything perfectly flush and level. And people who do it for a living can finish it in a couple hours.

It's not that hard.
Couple questions.
Do you have solid sheating?
Do you have sheetrock currently in place?
Are your walls pretty straight?
Will you have headspace on top of your cabinets between the ceiling?
Will you be installing the countertops?
Will you buy pre fabbed cabinets and install them your self?

I did a set in my laundry room (which granted is not a whole kitchen) but I made a set of jacks out of 2x4's with adjustable feet (basically looked like a book shelf cut at the height I wanted the cabinets to be) so that I once got the cabinets set on top of, I could level the feet to my mark on the wall and ensure everything was level, to compensate for on low spots in the floor. Also if you are repainting, I used a level and a stud finder and marked the edges of the stud enough to extend above and below the cabinet in order to be able to see the stud when screwing the cabinet to the wall. This was only three cabinets so I was not having to use a long run. I will say by the screws that use either a square bit or a torx head and some yourself from stripping out the shitty phillips head bits.

Sheetrock is in place but my brother is my Sheetrock guy, so no problems if I need to bust some out.
Walls are straight
10ft ceilings with 8ft cabinets
Not doing the countertops, will pay for that to be done professionally
These are semi-custom cabinets that I'm think I can DIY

In my admittedly limited experience, those are right up there with unicorns and the OT 10.
Walls that looks straight prove otherwise pretty quick when doing cabinets.

You were willing to pay for semi-custom but not willing to pay for a professional install?

There is probably 100 youtube videos on how to do this...

Watch a few installation videos and then decide if you can follow the steps. If so, go ahead and try. I did it my self and it came out great. Major thing is how close to level your floor is. Mine wasn't and gave me fits.

3K for instillation seems a bit much when I am fairly handy and have help to install if I choose too

Negative. There really isn't much to hanging cabinets. Just did them in the office in my home. I did hire someone to fix my garage spring.
