I may be getting a new opportunity soon and am wondering what the OT thinks about commutes. I do not want to leave where I am living, and this opportunity is quite a ways away.

If the job is worth it, career altering and what I want to do, is it worth the long commute for the time being until I decide to move closer?

I believe the term "long" is relative, as some may believe 20 minutes is long while others may think 2 hours is long. So what are your personal thoughts on how far is too far in general?

It's just driving, they're not asking you to cut a leg off.

I have had commutes of 2+ hours and they eventually suck, any more than an hour now and I get a room closer

45 mins - hour is my max. And it has to be a great gig to push me to an hour. I wouldn't work in downtown Austin for less than 115k.

for me, it would be an hour at most

but I would absolutely hate it...so much, eventually I would probably want to move, even unless I just absolutely had my dream place

my commute right now is 5 minutes

I really hate the idea of spending 2 hours a day on the road but right now my commute is 5 minutes.

I commute 25 minutes to work and there is little or no traffic. I enjoy the trip, gives me time to wake up and clear my head for the day.

We are talking about 90-100 miles with no traffic.

I mean, I don't have anything against driving for a long commute. But I don't see how people with long commutes can be at work on time.

I just think it depends on where you are commuting to and from.

I commuted 30 minutes (not including traffic) for my last job and it wasn't too bad. I think an hour would be my max.
