4l60e tranny. It will be much cheaper for me going this route.
I can install the tranny no problem. Done it twice in ls1 camaro's. Mechanics pls respond.

To start, you have to have the tools.

I did A 46re out of a dodge. The main thing is to lay everything out and keep the area clean.
I bought bedsheets to put it all on.
You may need a large press to remove some of the springs.
I had to on mine.
Get high quality clutches acc bands. Get new solenoid too.
It's harder than rebuilding a engine, but it's more hassle than difficult. With the internet resources are out there to help you.

You need tools and ability .... and lots of patience.

Mechanics pls respond.
FYI: I use nothing but Redline these days.

I did a 4L80e. Had to bring it to somebody to get the pistons reinstalled because I couldn't do it without tearing the lip seals. Some people can do it with feeler gauges. I couldn't.
It's virtually impossible without the specialized tools unless you're infinitely patient and meticulous.
Pull it and reinstall it yourself. You'll save a good bit of money that way. Let someone else rebuild it. If you're questioning your ability to do it, you can't do it.

Just buy a rebuilt one. Not worth the effort. They are like $1500

Allow me to discourage the OP
It was about 5 months from the day I pulled it out to the day i was driving it again. It's fricking pain in the arse. I'm glad I did it now ealooking back because I learned a whole lot, but I'll never do it again on something I actually need to have back in a reasonable time. By the time I replaced the stuff I screwed up, I saved no money.

It is not for the easily frustrated or those strapped for time. You have to have a lot of patience and focus. My dad lost one of the throw out bearing I think that what it was and damn near had a nervous break down.

Don't even attempt it if you do not know what you are doing. It is VERY complex. Everything has to be exactly right when going back together. Replacing tranny is nothing but rebuilding? Not a job for a do it yourselfer. You'll regret not starting off by taking it to a professional.

I was an ASE certified Master tech , certified in transmissions as part of the Master tech certification and I wouldn't frick with auto transmissions if that tells you anything.

Perfect post showing why someone that doesn't know what they are doing or talking about should not even attempt. Nobody "loses" a throw out bearing when rebuilding an automatic transmission because they don't have throw out bearings. Only manual transmission equipped cars do and its a part of the clutch mechanism not the transmission. Its also about the size of a doughnut. I swear that people (all the damn time on this board) make up stories just so they can post something and end looking like fools. Don't know anything about the OPs topic? Easy , just don't post in thread!
