All I'm getting from you is that you think that government has more of a mandate to uphold and increase property values than it does to protect the use of property.
Again, when you live in a neighborhood, there are multiple investors that depend on your property looking decent. If you dont like that, land out in the country is a great option. If you wanna live around civilized people, then you're going to need to do your part to make sure your house looks the part. Again as I said multiple times, this has nothing to do with a $300k venture boat with a cover in your driveway, this has to do with old baw who leaves his $400 paddleboat in his driveway, uncovered, rusting, and smelly. Its probably full of bugs and a breeding ground for mosquitos and he hasn't dipped it in the water since 2008, but it sits there decorating his yard and becoming a nuisance to everyone.
If more people with those nuisance boats would have done a better job of upkeeping them or covering them or putting them in a garage, this issue would have NEVER come up.

the problem I have with the rule is that it is for the entire city. I am fine with neighborhood level restrictions, but the entire city when 65% of it is poor trash is just silly.
Personally I am fine, I have a huge backyard with access, I just think it's shitty for the city to pass such a law and not really make it known until they went around and tagged boats with stickers of the new ordinance. I do get that "shitty paddleboats" would be an eyesore. But most people just have simple bay boats or flats and they do not bother me a bit. But hey I grew up in an area where being a sportsman mattered more than your landscaping.

So, you're advocating for HOA guidelines and contracts for wherever you want to live. That's fine.
I will reiterate on Napoleon's behalf that this is about a local government statute and not a private covenant, however. Do you think that the city is justified in doing so?

i would dig a small pond...just big enough for the boat to float and then launch it.
The Corp of Engineers would probably try to regulate it.

I don't know about Bama,La,or Georgia, but in many counties in Florida, they deed restrict that shite into subdivisions.
Every subdivision i did electrical in had deed restrictions so strict, you would of thought we were in Russia.

ah ok, so you're more concerned with poor grandparents with an old, rusty paddleboat in their driveway. Their happiness is of course much more important than the property values of the entire city. Then when those old people die and their estates rot until probate runs its course, that paddleboat is rotting away, getting smelly, and reminding all potential buyers of homes around their home that trashy people live there and they should look elsewhere. Did I get it?
God, you are one dumb frick. Just because one is retired and on a fixed income doesn't mean they can't afford a nice boat and run it. Besides that, we old people like to do our own work and up keep on our boats. We have that time and having it at the house makes it easy to do that. Oh, a 55' boat with a $1100 fuel bill is poor. Hell, I used to blow 3K+ a weekend fishing my boat.

Again it's not New Orleans, it's Kenner. A very republican city, that has a working class background. Huge difference in government between NOLA and Kenner.

That's awesome fish fighter, but you cant complain you're on a fixed income and want to have a boat that costs $3k/weekend to run. People with toys that cost that much to operate, dont have "fixed" budgets, they have ample cash to do whatever.

So let me get this straight.
A board filled with 98% Republicans/Libertarians who want government to mind their own damn business is suddenly in favor of the gov't telling you what you can/cannot have in your driveway???
I have never understood why people think boats in driveways are trashy. I love it because it tells me where the people worth meeting live.
If it is not runnning and looks like the wreck from Gilligan's Island then sure, ask the owners to remove it.

That seems stupid. If it's blocking the sidewalk, that's a problem, but if it fits in your driveway why is that the government's business?

EXACTLY! It means those families have disposable income and would generally be better neighbors than some family with a subprime mort and a 1990 Jetta

Bc a real republican cares about his property values. He may be upset that the trashy/poors couldn't do a good job of keeping their cheap boats clean and covered up like he would have, but he has come to accept that you cannot expect the poor/lazy/uneducated to do so and now he understands that his nice boat must be punished as well.

Property values have dick to do with a boat being parked in the driveway. Although that is the gov's bullshite argument. Bossier City had a similar ordinance pass a few years back - glad I got the frick out.

It's not the government's job to protect your property values. It's to protect your use of property.

I live in old metairie and there are plenty of boats in driveways.
Posted on 12/8/16 at 11:21 am to White Bear
again, indirectly it does, bc you dont see boats in the driveways of the best neighborhoods in town. Those guys also surely enjoy boating, but they tuck their boats away in garages, backyards, marinas, whatever and in turn it helps keep their areas clean and property values high. The only people with crappy boats in the yard, which led to this rule, are cheaper parts of town.
