I worked with someone like this. I just cut her off. She started texting me and I responded with I DO NOT WANT TO TALK TO YOU!
There is a get together of old co-workers and I said specifically not to invite her or I will not show up. I don't want to have a public showdown because I will look like the bad guy.

Whenever they say something that annoys me I just tell them "that's incredibly racist." Walk away while they're still confused.

I make it a point to be as nice as I can be to them, thereby, "...heaping coals of fire upon there heads."

I am one of those miserable people, but it's only because I haven't found a good way to deal with all of the stupid people I encounter in the world

The best thing to do with people that live every day to be angry is help them be angry by trolling the shite out of them. They're gonna be angry either way. You might as well get a good laugh out of it

Why would you let them get to you when you know it's not personal, and that they are miserable?
I try to break through and get a smile out of them. Sometimes it works, sometimes they lash out worse because I am happy. Either way, I'm good.

Pray for them. Ask God to give them all you want in life for yourself and the frustration will slip away.
